If you love the smell of fried conspiracy in the morning then you may enjoy this observation from Business Insider — it looks like Apple TV sales may be being kept put of the ‘top selling’ categories on Amazon.
You see, even with a quarter million sold so far, Apple TV doesn’t show up in among the top 100 list of electronics items sold via the giant retailer, but there’s evidence to show it should be in the top 20. AppleTVs do show up here and here.
That evidence is:
- Roku’s XD streaming player is listed at number 20 on the bestselling electronics list. (Actually, this has shifted overnight and that product now shows at number 23).
- Roku’s XD streaming player is listed at number four (now three) on Amazon’s best-selling Digital Media Devices list. (A list now headed by the much more useful than Google TV recently-introduced Boxee Box).
- The Apple TV is number one (now two) on Amazon’s best-selling Digital Media Devices list.
Put this data together and the Apple TV should show up ahead of Roku’s gadget somewhere in the top 20 list on Amazon’s site.
Business Insider is so curious about this seeming anomaly that it has asked Amazon to explain these figures.
I’m kind of curious, too.
