Expensive, useless, a jewel for iPhone

Is this the most expensive iPhone application ever?

IAmRich is the latest from developer, Armin Heinrich. It costs almost $1,000 (£599.99), and does absolutely nothing at all.

As noted by Alley Insider, the application simply displays a red virtual gem on the screen of the iPhone. And the developer's description is moderately amusing, too.

"The red icon on your iPhone or iPod touch always reminds you (and others when you show it to them) that you were rich enough to afford this," the app's information page says in iTunes. "It's a work of art with no hidden function at all."

The developer also offers Calc Pro - a more advanced calculator for the iPhone.

Erm, we're puzzled what to think? Is this what to expect from the world's most advanced ecosystem? What are your thoughts?

And I bet it will sell too. There are people out there with more money than brains...

I mean, hell, I'D buy it if I could afford it.

Well if you can't buy it - it means you're not rich (which app name implies).

Everything right from the start was represented in a wrong direction. This app shouldn't suppose to make app's author rich. It implies that if you have that icon on your iPhone's springboard - it shows that YOU are rich.

Think again .)

thanks for sharing.

As I am no longer an US Resident, i find this app quite amusing. Since alot of you US Boys & Girls seem to pay everything with a creditcard (no offense) without thinking about the "real" Value, or actually checking if you have the money to afford it.

One could call this app a mirror of society!

Its a great App for people with small Dicks and no self-confidence!

good riddance.

its a publicity stunt

Such useless and intentionally misleading apps give more reason for Apple to require developers to have to either show a demo of the app before a customer downloads it otherwise offer a trial version prior to the customer paying to fully unlock the app.

There's nothing misleading about this app. It does exactly what it claims to do. Nothing more. Nothing less. People buy things to show they're rich all the time: jewel-encrusted hand bags, jewelry, cars, houses, boats. Surely you don't think everyone driving a Mercedes or BMW are driving enthusiasts? Why should this be treated any differently?

Do you even think before you post? Seriously... People who have money buy those items (car, boat and house) on the open market because they in turn get three things back. The first, is that it provides a role (shelter, transportation). Second, it can be traded on the open market. Finally, it enhances the ego by filling an emotional void (this is not necessarily bad).

This product, however, has none of these values. It serves no purpose of utility, it can't be traded or sold, and their is no emotional value because no desire for the item has been established within our culture. This could change if a demand was created for this item... but I seriously doubt it.

if nothing else, very interesting

more interesting: someone makes an app called MakeThemThinkYouAreRich, that looks and performs exactly like this one, only it is free :-)

What if someone bought this by accident?? :O

This app, and many others are just a feeble attempt to bank on the novelty of the App store. When serious developers finish the work on their iPhone apps, I think we will see interest in apps like this one rapidly vaporize. That being said, I would really like to see Apple ban crap like this from the app store and make it easier to find the good stuff.

this man has founded another way to make a lot of money :-PP

Epic Fail

of course its kinda pointless to have this if no one knows what the symbol means...

This complete ridiculous app is now gone from the store ;D

I wanted to buy this with the tips that I made yesterday but when I clicked on it it said it was not available on the app store.

I guess I'll just have to figure out some other way to let people know that I'm rich.MEHS

Just bought it! Don't regret - it fits AMAZINGLY with LV bags!!!

Lol... you bought it right after they took it down? :P

maybe if the cash earned went to a charity or foundation...

Can't afford the "official" I Am Rich application? Try this knock-off webapp. Just as good, at a fraction of the price. And that fraction is: 0/999.99

It's absolutely fabulous! Someone will get really rich, selling this useless app. It's just like stuff like gucci: you pay big bugs to show you're able to afford it: show you're rich, but it has no real value over other things.

I really wish I came up with this idea... Apple pays me only one dollar a year...

sure this will sell in the arab market!!

it's all about honest signalling :-)

Expensive useless piece of crap that is.... I pray not to hit the BUY button accidentally

I'm waiting for the next release to come out in six weeks time... I'm richer which will cost $2,000 (£1,200)

;)
