Wired reporting Steve Jobs Armageddon
Out of nowhere it seems Wired's Brian X Chen is saying that rebellion might be afoot in Cupertino:
Rakesh said he believes Apple isn't preparing to simply give Jobs the boot. He said it's more likely that Apple has developed a new executive team, which will gradually transition Jobs out of his role as CEO. "It won't be Jobs staying at home, and starting next day the new guy comes," Rakesh said. "It'll be a transitional overlap -- over the next six months -- until the next team takes over."
Similarly, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster on Wednesday distributed a note saying his firm believes Apple is getting ready to shift management roles. "Yielding this year's Macworld keynote to Phil Schiller, along with the participation of Tim Cook and Phil Schiller at the October event is, in our view, a clear message that a leadership shift is underway," Munster said.
Oh really? Got any real evidence?
Several Apple employees contacted by Wired.com have reported that they haven't seen Jobs since the company announced the CEO would not appear for a Macworld keynote. Jobs generally isn't very visible in public, but the employees said they haven't seen him on campus recently, either.
So, let's get this straight. A few of Apple's tens of thousands of anonymous employees haven't seen Jobs since Tuesday? That is two whole days.
Come on guys, we expect better. We called up some Apple employees who said that Jobs has been seen with some mysterious Tina woman and that's why he's not sitting next to you at the cafeteria.

LOL.. I think it's called vacation?
I mean.. it is the holiday season here in the US.... about half of my company is starting vacation today.
There are all sorts of people around my office I haven't seen for a week or so either, including our CEO....
Amazing how that always seems to happen around this time of the year.
Thanks... :)

Yeah, just us get rid of what keeps Apple alive. I don't think Apple would do the same mistake twice.
I am pretty sure Steve just wants some time. He is in his 5o's has billions and can't enjoy life because he is working 24/7. He will gradually divide the power to several people that's true, but only because he wants to!
"He is in his 50's has billions and can't enjoy life because he is working 24/7. He will gradually divide the power to several people that's true, but only because he wants to!"
THIS. Steve's been working on surrounding himself with brilliant people who think like he does, and he would be a fool to NOT be preparing Apple to go on without him so he can step back and enjoy what he's earned.
He's on a Holiday like many others at this time of the year. My boss is out until the 12th of January for instance.
Yeah, things are very tough in this economy. Maybe they have to layoff Jobs to save the $1 a year they pay him in salary. LOL. Give us a break and try reporting NEWS.
quote;
" in our view, a clear message that a leadership shift is underway," Munster said."
I can clearly see that "a keynoter shift id underway"!
Steve can still be in full charge of the company and do not give more keynotes!
(I still want him to be at WWDC!)
I won't be seen around my office until January 5th... Are they trying to replace me?
You, uh, didn't get the memo?
hehe, good one!
I really don't understand why so few people get this. Steve will no longer be the CEO of Apple, period. It is only a question of when. The board knows this, Steve knows this.
Given that reality and what happened the last time Steve was not there - it is only prudent to establish and execute a succession plan in which OTHER LEADERS are identified and step into more prominent roles.
What we are seeing - if Wired is right (and I think they are) - is Apple ensuring that once Steve is gone the markets and customers do not react in a way that destroys everything they have built.
anyone with an interest in long-term prosperity for apple (shareholders, users) should want a succession plan. Why not begin it gradually now? Steve could end up an apple evangelist, even give the occasional reality-distorting pep rally for the faithful. If anything, jobs could be faulted for his ego for holding onto his high-profile public role so tightly and for so long (I think there's much more diversity of leadership behind the scenes). As others have noted, he has begun integrating other execs into the presentations over the past year. You go, boy.
If steve jobs gos...apple gos!
I agree with Brian Roy! Steve Jobs is going, I believe...
I think we might see something similar to Bill Gates and his leaving, that is a transition over some period time (6 months?) and some involvement such as an advisor or even chairman... unless he´s really sick, even dying???
If you are anyone... its the end of the year, its the holidays...you work, I play CEO at home in December. I will see and wish whomever I want, when I want to. Figure the same for January...if HE pleases.
It's not his time to go. Not in this era his company is rising and rising in sales and more so, attention. 6 years from now or so, he'll leave. When the attention shifts.
It makes sense...
Since Jobs came back in 1997, Apple has grown beyond anyone's expectations. Apple has beat Wall Street's expectations in just about every economic quarter in the last 10 years. Apple has increased market share against industry trends in each economic quarter. Apple has diversified its product offerings and entered the lucrative sectors of entertainment and telecommunications with huge success. The iTunes Music Store has become the largest music provider in the US. The iphone has become the most rapidly adopted smart phone. The ipod is an iconic music player, like Sony's Walkman in the 80's. Success after success after surprising success.
In light of Apple's amazing and unexpected comeback under Steve Jobs, I think the Apple TV is not worth chasing Jobs out of his position as CEO.
If I was a shareholder of Apple and the gave Jobs the boot, I'd be outraged beyond belief. He's the MAIN reason why Apple is successful today. You think that what happened after the first time they got rid of Jobs would have been a learned lesson.
You guys are hilarious, keep it up, better than Mad Mag.

He was good for Apple yes but he's no longer the driving force he once was. Hand over the Ives - after all he probably single-handedly saved Apple with the design of the iMac,
there comes a time we all must go..one way or another......I just hope steve is there for a long long time more! don't you all agree?....apple is jobs..jobs is apple...
Steve Jobs disappeared right around the holidays! A huge shock, but what does it mean? It can mean only one thing, and it's something many have suspected: Jobs is Santa Claus. It only makes sense, in hindsight. We should have known.
