Win 7 student edition don't play nice with 32-bit Vista
Regrets, we’ve all had a few, and sometimes Hell’s pathway’s paved with good intentions. This morning we’re hearing all about the first emerging v.1.0 flaws in Microsoft’s newly-released Windows 7.0 OS - and it looks like poor impoverished student PC users have been hit with the newest identified bug in the newly-shipping Microsoft public beta.
Engadget is reporting that “quite a few people have had issues installing the downloadable $29 student upgrade edition on 32-bit Vista”.
Seems the file doesn’t unpack properly, and rather than becoming an OS installer magically transforms itself into one executable file and two non-functioning bundles. And then the whole install process bugs out, as it tries to run a 64-bit task on these 32-bit systems.
Microsoft is “looking into it”, the report states.
Still - looks like some of the people are having some fantastic parties - is that a bloatware burger??

So, instead of getting valuable Apple related information here all we can do is be childish and attempt to bash Windows?
No kidding. Seems like they are pretty childish
Agreed. This is actually a pretty minor problem. Just a QA issue that can be fixed.
Meanwhile, even with the latest update, my latest generation macbook seems to stall the HDD from time to time.
can the windows 7 sold under the student pricing be installed under bootcamp??
Yep, I did it last night. It worked fine for me.
Yeah, and it's not like the SL bug with Home folders being erased was a big deal, right? Only M$ is capable of doing something wrong....
It appears there are more M$ readers here than Mac users... otherwise you'd have recognized the Schadenfreude!

People are dumb to use the 32 bit version, 64 bit ftw. Anyways, Snow Leopard had problems with the upgrade CD too... remember that all you fanboys before you start bashing Microsoft.
What upgrade problems?
There weren't any problems upgrading to Snow Leopard. There was a bug that had to do with the Guest account. But that wasn't related to the upgrade process.
Also you're an idiot for thinking people can use the 64-bit version on their 32-bit hardware. At least I'm going to assume that's what you think.
Students are moving to Mac in droves. Hence this special program. This botched upgrade process only reinforces to them that windows is a mess.
Looking for help: On a Mac, bought this deal, trying to run W7 on parallel desktops application. The file download type is a MS-DOS (.exe), what can I do to get up and running? Thanks!
Went through allot of trouble getting through this issue on my macbook pro. It was worth it. Of course Mac OS X is still a better OS than Windows 7 but it' s a major improvement and except for this snafu the it seems to be an excellent new OS.
Who's bashing? I love he whingers who pre-emptivly bash for no reason. What are you-American?
The download is easily fixed, and $30 bucks is a pretty sweet deal to have the best of both worlds. I'm sure I'll only use it now and again, but it's never a bad thing to have the option of booting Windows if you need it.
It took some doing, but there is lots of good info on how to get the deal and make the download into a bootable install disk. I compiled and posted to my blog in case anyone's experiencing these problems: http://bedwards.wordpress.com
