Windows 7's latest innovation - broken iPhone sync on Intel P55 chipsets, claims
iPhone users running the latest, greatest Microsoft OS, Windows 7, have encountered an interesting little error on behalf of the iPhone hating-Steve Ballmer led company - PC’s using a new Intel chipsets seem unable to sync with the Apple device.
According to a Register report, PC’s running Intel’s P55 chipset face an error which prevents iPhone sync through iTunes on various WIndows PC’s that use the chips.
Apple Discussions are carrying reports of the problem, which Microsoft and Intel are allegedly looking into.
“For the past six weeks, complaints from users running this trifecta of pain have been clogging a thread on Apple's discussion board. The posts report that - in most cases - iTunes 9 for Windows will recognize the iPhone, but when a sync is attempted, users are greeted with a cryptic "error 0xE8000065" - an iPhone-connection failure notification,” also reported The Register.
While Apple’s keeping quiet on the problem, Microsoft told The Register: “Microsoft has not seen this particular question posed in the Microsoft Answers for Windows 7 community forum, nor in any of our call centers. We reviewed the issue raised on the Apple Discussion Board and are currently investigating. If we determine this to be a problem specific to Windows 7, we will post an update on the Microsoft Answers site."

even though people/blogs are trying to blame Microsoft & Windows 7 for the problem, Microsoft is handling this like a company should! By investigating & letting everyone know that they will fix it if it is their problem! Apple on the other hand will just let lots of users post in their forum with no peep on if they will help or not! The one major flaw in Apple as a company!
Just because the company hasn't published anything public about the issue doesn't mean they're not looking into it. Likely, when people actually *CALL* Apple and report the issue, it'll get escalated until it's brought to software engineers attention. Apple definitely monitors discussion forums, as well, and can begin an investigation that way as well. Often times, the banter in discussion forums is somewhat useless as to trying to diagnose a cause of a problem. There may not be a fix for it now, but I can assure you, Apple will probably publish a knowledge base article when they have established there is, indeed, a causal relationship between that particular chipset and Windows 7.
Installed Windows7 on my desktop this weekend. Everything went quite smoothtly. Happy first: new harddisk, fresh system. But after I installed a few programmes - I had this old windows feeling again: utter boredom. (Btw: I skipped Vista, so I can't get anything out of switching from an annoying system to a boring one)
I refuse to comment on this.... d'oh!
I believe this is an apple problem because i have Windows Vista with AMD cpu and i get the same problem.
Why don't you people call Apple and get support? 800-MY-IPHONE.
My motherboard has the P55 chipset and I synced my 3GS just fine with iTunes version 9.0.2.25
I wonder what could be causing problems for some people and not others.
Yes, I'm running 7 Ultimate on my pc and yes, I like it so far...
I have an iMac running Snow Leopard too so fanboys don't flame.
Umm i think this new "innovation" is not as good as the one introduced with Snow Leopard, the one that wipes out your computer if you accidentally log-in as a guess!!!!

My point was that every OS have problems, but having problems syncing with a device is not the same as losing your data.
Is this confirmed?
I have a EVGA p55 FTW with and i7 860 processor and it worked just fine. i didnt notice one problem. maybe its fixed cause it worked fine, i restored/updated my phone to take off my jailbreak and like i said it worked fine and put all my apps and music back on it
Let's see. I love my iPhone and I have a PC running Windows XP. Now that Win 7 is available I am considering getting a new computer. Win 7 is getting very good reviews, but I love my iPhone. If I get a new PC with Win 7 I will not be able to sync with iTunes. Hmm. Should I get a Mac or a PC?
Steve Ballmer are you reading this?
I bet you less than 5% of the people have that chipset. i do and im also not effected
