Steve Jobs is 'bigger than Oprah'

From the Apple human interest department, a new survey of US teenagers this morning reveals that Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, is considered bigger than Oprah Winfrey.

Apple’s boss is the person US teens aged between 12-17-years most admire because “he has made the world a better place.”

One thousand teenagers were asked to choose between business entrepreneurs, those who had started their own business. Others in the list included Tony Hawk, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kimora Lee Simmons, Oprah Winfrey and Mark Zuckerberg. Steve Jobs took the poll.

Nearly two-thirds (61%) of teens who voted for Jobs said it was on account of he "made a difference in/improved people's lives or made the world a better place."

Another third (33 percent) of those choosing  Jobs said his "success in multiple fields" was behind their choice.

Steve Jobs took 35 percent of the vote, as against Oprah Winfrey (closest runner up) who snagged 25 per cent of the poll.

Suggesting teens may be more altruistic than adults give them credit for, the predictable reasons why a teen might admire a hugely successful entrepreneur like Steve Jobs or Oprah Winfrey - wealth and fame - were selected by only four percent of those who admire Jobs most and three percent of those who admire Winfrey most.

This is the seventh year that Junior Achievement has conducted the poll.

That's nice. Can we please get the new iMacs already?

yet how many Steve Jobs could you fit inside Oprah?

"There can only be one!"

LOL!!!!

According to Google Steve is around 6'2" and Oprah is around 5'6", so where's the news? :P

I'm sure the R&D teams that actually make the frigging products aren't big fans of hearing yet more over blown steve jobs worship.

Its still amazing to me how adults actually believe he's something more than a spokemans and figure head.

You make a valid point about the product teams, but then piss that analysis up against the wall with your stupid comment about Jobs being just a "spokemans and a figure head" (sic)

If you really believe that Jobs doesn't absolutely define the direction of Apple then you're as dumb as you are illiterate.

Apple and Jobs have the lion's share of loyalty from the next generation. Just like getting them using Mac's in school, this indicates brand loyalty for a generation.

I wonder how many of these teens associated Jobs to the Pixar films? Probably very few, but he still beats Oprah, which is a pretty decent browser but I prefer Safari.

It depends on what you measure. He's taller, but she's got more girth. It's like the debate over whether GHz matter.

we aren't talking about mass here obviously

Some of the people reading this have way way way too much time on their hands. Wonder if that's because 9 to 5 Mac makes their jobs easier for them, what with being ahead of the curve and all?

Definitely becoming my favorite Mac site.

Gates finish?

I really thought that maybe Steve Jobs had put on a lot of weight by eating lots of ice cream. Too bad he can't just take some of Oprah's weight and put it on his own frame. The author should have just said that Steve Jobs is more popular than Oprah. I don't think that Steve in his prime ever weighed more than Oprah Winfrey, but to me he was always more important than Oprah.

Ima let u finish, but Linus Torvalds is the shizz. But yeah, , Jobs was the man first and will be for some time to come.

that was an intresting story

Amazing that kids even know who Steve Jobs is.
