Unibody MacBook takes three bullets

In case you are wondering if your Unibody MacBook can take three bullets from an IDF bomb diffusing team, the answer is no.  Aluminum<Lead@ high speeds.  A better question might be: How can I avoid putting my Mac in harm's way?  A start might be not leaving it alone in an Israeli airport in an unmarked bag.

It's not "Pro"

Of course, the MBP would have withstood the 3 bullets, what with its completely different construction etc!!!!!

oh yeah because the mere word 'Pro' completely changes the chemical and physical properties of aluminum so that it not only resists bullets but it changes the direction of them before because its that magical and special, you know the next time words come into that empty space between your ears where a brain should be don't say them out loud because you are very very very VVVEERRYYY stupid

wow your a tool of epic proportions!  I do believe he was joking.

You do realize he was making a joke right, and your response made you look like a tool.

LOL your all douches :P :)

(Y) tc lovelys. enjoyy.

Re "its not pro"... the difference in this instance is moot.  Its a unibody MacBook, which is essentially the same construction as 13" MBP!

rather clunky 'bulletproof' vest

all proper laptop testing should be subject to bullet perfuration resistance. EU and israeli officials have rightly classified these objects as security hazards.

Meh, a software update should fix that.

Hahaha nicee

Er... I'm no expert, but is shooting a suspected bomb really the best way to deal with it? Even Jack Bauer never did that.

Wow what a bunch of paranoid bitches.

And if you really suspect a bomb you definitely don't shoot at it.

Idiots

I wonder if this is a case for AppleCare?

It is as if they wanted to hit the hard drive and destroy any value left.

Actually, the hard drive is in the other side under where your right palm would go so it was probably totally fine.

But I bet it will still turn on and run.

yeah its probably still better than a windows 7 computer

I have news for you, unless anyone of you have experience with bombs (I'm guessing NOT), please don't reffer to professionals as idiots.

these are the most trained personal in the world and you are calling them idiots... can't believe it.

by the way, the best way to deal with a bomb is to shoot it in a secure area. don't believe the movies.

I think it's awesome when a customer comes to me asking to recover their FileVault or PGP encrypted disk, even though they've lost the password.  They note that people in the movies can crack passwords in minutes, right before the bomb explodes.  Why can't tech support do the same?

depends a bit: imagine a chemical / biological / dirty bomb...

If you can exclude such bomb, blow it to pieces, fine. BUT you probably did not know what you shot at if it turns out to be a MB, I guess.

Except your safe place is the moon.

lighten up dude

just another case of a PC fanboy rage letting loose on a Mac.

funniest thing i saw all week.

But really WTF was the shooter thinking and what was it meant to achieve..

It is a known fact that if you leave your belongings unattended in a public place in Israel, especially in a public transportation hub (airport, train station, bus station), your stuff will be taken to a secure area and shot with prejudice.

So, before you post your comments accusing Israeli security personnel of being stupid by shooting at a suspected bomb, you should at least use a fraction of your brain and google the topic. When you speak on a topic you know nothing about, you are the one who is an idiot!

RTFA. Here is a quote from the article:

"I went inside to check on my bag. I had left it unattended, where they instructed. It was still there so I went back outside.

Moments later a man came outside and introduced himself as the manager on duty. And then, “I’m sorry but we had to blow up your laptop. “"

They knew it was her bag. They destroyed it anyway. I would be pissed.

To the guy defending these idiots above.  You are an idiot yourself.  These are airport security guys not supermen.  Shooting a suspected bomb *is* a bad idea, and the story sounds fishy to anyone with a brain.  The article even says that they did it (possibly) in a fit of pique.  Israeli border guards are well known to be bigoted and paranoid.  Your attempt to paint them as if they were some kind of supermen heros is pathetic.  We will likely never know the truth, but it's way more likely that they did this on purpose and just for laughs rather than as part of some heroic attempt to save lives.

If I have the choice to open a mysterious bag (that might blow up) or shoot it, I'm shooting it.  But I'm not going to stop one of the idiots from here from opening it.

bomb disposal 101: quickest way to set off a bomb with the lowest level of risk is to put a few rounds through it. Explosives are generally not the most stable things in the world.

99% of the time the small "suitcase" style IEDs that the Israelis deal with are not semtec or C4, so a bullet would set it off.

I promise they didn't run up to it after they shot it assuming that all was well.

" Gazoobee (not verified) To the guy defending these idiots above.  You are an idiot yourself.  These are airport security guys not supermen."

Hey Gazoobee, you troll, have you ever been to Israel? Ever seen what the difference between their, as you put it, "airport security guys", and the Idiot TSA we have in the USA is? I bet not.

Let me inform you that Israel doesn't have "security guys", nor does most of the world for that matter. They have the military as their "airport security guys." You don't screw with them.
