U2 swaps smartphones like...

Wow, just wow.  It seems like just yesterday U2 were singing the virtues of the iPod for Apple.  Now RIM throws a few bucks their way and they do pretty much the exact same thing (it looks like an Apple ad until the very end).

The thing is: Is a Blackberry really an entertainment device?  Are you thinking rock and roll when you get a Blackberry?  OK...they want to change perceptions.  Did it work?

Oh, as a commenter pointed out, Bono is a founding member of Apple's favorite investment firm, Elevation Partners.  Though technically, he should be doing ads for the Pre and not Blackberry in that case.

lol, somehow misplaced... while Origin of the Species was a nice music commercial for the ipod, this almost just seems like someone showing off a video...

Better off without U2

I've never understood why Apple used U2 in the first place. Mediocre middle age isn't the image they usually aim for.

I agree. U2 were played out

I agree. U2 were played out even before Apple used them.

RIM IS A ONE-TRICK PONY

2515

RIM came along with the Corporate email phone that worked. They has since spanwed all sizes and shapes of keyboard text/email phones. Fine, but the OS is antiquated, and so they rushed to market a Bold to compete with iPhone. It was a horrible failure, and now the BB Tour (no WiFi - thanks Verizon), is the next phone to save itself for a few months.

They are a one-trick pony, that have fallen woefully behind the curve, and their vision is blurry to say the least. How many different versions of OSes do they have and how does one know when it's updated, and what that update does?

They are keyboard phones, RIM does not make a platform OS which devices can ride upon and strengthen the platform.

If one owns a BB, what prevents them from moving to another device? Nothing. No apps, no can't live without features, etc... they are done.

But doesn't Bono have an

2218

But doesn't Bono have an interest in RIMM!

I maybe wrong, but I did read somewhere Bono is a big investor in a company called Elevation that is someway connected to RIMM.

Bono and U2 always had a tendency to back strange brands, with the one exception being Apple.

Yes. They started

Yes. They started collaborating with RIM instead of Apple because Apple wouldn't give them FULL creative liberty with their endorsed products.

I don't know if that's the

1214

I don't know if that's the reason. Bono is one of the principle investors in Elevation Partners, which is a private equity firm that was formed in 2004. Oddly, Elevation Partners is a 25% equity holder of Palm, so one would think that Bono would be advertising for PalmOS devices instead of RIM. It could be a case, though, of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".

I personally like the Bold.

I bought the original iPhone right when it came out (paid the higher price too ;D ) and then bought a iPhone 3G shortly after it came out. I ended up switching recently from the iPhone to a Bold and while I recognize there are some things the iPhone does exceptionally well, I am overall very much more happy with the Bold.

It's actually not that bad as a music device- with a 16GB SD card it is able to hold as much music as my iPhone could. It displays song information and album art fine and is easily searchable. The Bold is not as well integrated with the PC as the iPhone is ala iTunes, but it still works great -- Video too. I would go so far as to say that the Bold is the second best in terms of music/video playing ability of pretty much out of every phone in the US domestic phone market. It is right behind the iPhone. The Bold is even better than the Pre in my opinion.

LOL, nice try RIM, but the Blackberry is only cool to the corporate folks who think they are on the bleeding edge with this cool scroll ball interface.

Who cares U2 isn't exactly the most popular band anyway, Blackberry are welcome to them :-)

Well U2 is one of the most

2023

Well U2 is one of the most popular band worldwide! I don't like them, but they are for sure! Always sold out, lots of great songs and a huge fan community (i don't know how it is in the us, but in europe and asia they are huge)

They are still the most

1825

They are still the most popular rock band in the world and they are the highest grossing band as well. People here might not like them but most everyone else in the world does.

opinion

Woah boy...that's a whole lot of opinion.

Sooo?

2716

U2.... Music.... sooo yesterday. What a perfect partnership with RIM.

Creativity... Obviously RIM has none.

1914

That was just like an Apple commercial. One would think RIM could think a little more outside the box.

Second... I'm not at all a U2 fan, so in general the whole commercial was just 'meh'. But kudos to RIM for trying to shed a bit of that power trip jackass in a business suit image.

BlackBerry Loves U2

Some of you need to get out more and see the world!!

Who cares who's making money out of it all.Nobody's putting a knife under your throats to force you to buy it! No offence, you've all bought Apple goods and some of you have BlackBerrys.Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry couldn't care less what you think. They also don't tell you how to run your lives. Grow up and learn to accept you can not control everything. By the way, U2 have total control over every video they feature in...It's a U2 video not a RIM video. Of course U2 doesn't attrack the under 20s????? Why would they??? Am glad they don't!!.

Biased point of view is unfortunately so typical for Apple fans.

First of all I am writing this on a MacBook Pro 17 and I also own a 2nd gen Iphone that I consider a lot of fun.
My company gave me and BB and I understand why. Forty something security issues on the Ipod/Iphone fixed in software version 3 and you need to pay 10$ as an Ipod owner to get the problem fixed ……. beside the extra goodies. So typical for Apple
And all is so hush-hush.

Anyway the camera video quality on the BB blows the Iphone 1st 2nd generation out of the water and the screen resolution quality on the BB including the controversial Storm is way better then the Iphones. So multimedia wise strange but thru BB is a way better experience then the Iphone. Or it was for at least two years till the new one that I have no clue.

I had a U2 Ipod (the glorious 4th gen photo painted) that was a piece of crap (look on the web if you do not believe me as I was not an isolated case). I had lots of problem during the warranty till finally I got my money back. I newer looked back to Ipods until the touch came on the map.

Last but not least I bet you the same who say U2 blablabla would love them if it would be in bed with Apple.

Come on guys let’s be honest. BB rocks on their territory and it tries to get into consumers same as Aple rocks on the apps. But when it comes to corporate is such an unsafe GADGET.

U2 Not Popular?

1413

Who the hell are the kids posting this shit?

U2 just opened their World Tour for their new disc in Barcelona Spain and sold out everynight for each concert having 90,000 people.

Get a life Apple fucked up another business relationship and they would be lucky to get Madonna these days.

Rim has the 1,3 & 5 spot on most phones sold.

Pull your heads out of Steve's Skinny ass and get a life.

apparently

2113

Apparently U2 fanbois are more fanatic than Apple fanbois. Who knew?

lol u2

Did Bonor bribe you to write that?

U2 is probably not that

U2 is probably not that popular to people 20 and under really.
