TomTom for iPhone - Sept. 22 intro date?
The much-awaited TomTom for iPhone solution may finally reach stores next month, as the company plans a special media event on September 22, a report claims.
As noted by MacRumors, Dutch site Bright.nl disclosed TomTom to have distributed press invites for the media event in a recent Twitter post.
The invitations, distributed to local journalists, say: “TomTom will reveal the future of navigation to you" on Tuesday, the 22nd of September (from 10:30 am until 2 pm) ... Save the date!”
As we revealed last week, UK retailer Handtec prematurely leaked the local £99 price of the TomTom for iPhone system.
The system includes a windscreen mount, iPhone charger, amplified speakers, a hands-free kit and a GPS dongle. It also features a navigation application for iPhone; an Apple version of TomTom’s award-winning turn-by-turn navigation software, including IQ Routes and latest maps from Tele Atlas.
Some may recall the heady days of early this year, when colleague Cleve Nettles revealed a job ad from TomTom, seeking an iPhone/Mac OS developer. This caused us to speculate at a TomTom for iPhone solution then. And judging from the interest surrounding the product, we think the Dutch firm may have a winner on its hands on the product’s release.
If there’s any TomTom PR people out there, we’d like to take a look at your solution.

Already beaten. £26.

For way less than £99 you can buy a full dedicated satnav.. can't see anyone going for this.
you can't compare the two. the tomtom solution has external (and much much better) gps, speakers, hands free plus the charger/mount rack (that holds the external gps).
According to pda-247 Copilot is much better than any TomTom version! Even with external GPS.
It has many more features than the tomTom version!

Worth pointing out that this effectively points out the embargo release date for hardware accessories i'd say.
Will we see the Touch update prior to this?
TomTom just lost my money. I will not be purchasing from them unless they release by this Friday.
This product has already failed. Why bother with the media event? It's already been pointed out 1000 times that it will never sell because of the insane price they expect to get for it. Its a joke.
The idea of media event to highlight this failure is equally hilarious.
I've used TomTom 920 for the past year now and I can tell you its just mediocre at best and some times just pure pain. TomTom is crap at writing software = its so buggy its just unbelievable. I must point out that I have no experience about TomTom iPhone software but if they can't make their stand alone systems work I'm not setting my hopes too high on iPhone side either. I must also point out that their Tele Atlas map data and especially POI's are just pathetic. On iPhone I've used Navigon for iPhone and I like it much better then my TomTom 920 (with latest software and maps). Navigon uses Navteq maps which I feel are more accurate then Tele Atlas maps and have really great POI database.
Hei, det kan se ut som 22 september er dagen da Tomtom for iphone blir sluppet....
lol, I've been waiting since WWDC announcement until today and still not release yet, I've tried iGo, Sygic, Navigon, and G-Map Canada,
I can tell you honestly NAVIGON-MOBILENAVIGATOR is the best and I really loved it, it's have a really good guide and better sound cleary sound and the map are really nice with a really good POI's
I'll just wait to see the TomTom-iPhone price and will just see someone review first I don't think they will have more feature like Copilot
