Apple boosts Time Capsule capacity to 2TB
Apple has quietly upgraded its Time Capsule product, introducing a new higher capacity model, but kept prices unchanged.
The new Time Capsule is available with a 2TB capacity - more than enough to support wireless back-up for multiple Macs. A 1TB model is also available. Prices are $499 (2TB) or $299 (1TB), exactly the same price points as before but with double the capacity. They now also offer the previous (refurb) 500GB ones for $199.
Time Capsule is a back-up appliance that automatically and wirelessly backs up everything on one or more Macs running Leopard. The product also includes a dual-radio 802.11n base station (so you can use it as an AirPort connection to set up a network), three Gigabit Ethernet ports and is equipped with a "server grade" hard drive.

um....yay?
Front Row and a few ports so I can use it as my media server.
They now also offer the previous (refurb) 500GB ones for $199, just FYI
Thanks, added it.
- too slow
- no QoS (router)
- no removabale drivedisk -> no go
NAS with iSCSI is better.
...and too complicated and too expensive for the average user.
Once again, UK users get shafted. Still selling 1Tb and 500Gb time capsules at old prices, no mention or indication of a newer model coming. Chatted with an online store assistant, and she had no idea that the US store was even shipping 2Tb time capsules.
Don't fret - the new SKU's should appear on the UK Apple Store tomorrow, I've learned, so fret not.
Yeah, but what will the new prices be? Expect an increase as a way of covering the Pounds decline without actually having to make a price rise announcement.
Or not! Looks like I was wrong; the new 1TB is the same price as the old 500MB in the UK too!
This is good news for our company, we're constantly worried about a computer going kapoot and messing things up.
