* UPDATED: The Beatles blame EMI for delayed downloads through Apple's iTunes
Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney this afternoon blamed record label EMI for any delay in making music from the band available through iTunes.
McCartney said that he wants music from The Beatles to be made available as downloads, and slammed EMI for the long wait so far.
Speaking to the NME, he said: “We were having problems with iTunes – well not iTunes, EMI was the problem – with downloading, which we'd like to do because that's how a lot of people get their music.”
McCartney notes the band’s sidestepped the problem by getting involved in the new 'The Beatles: Rock Band' game, which is released tomorrow (September 9).
We also know that Apple will host a music-related special event tomorrow - with huge speculation that music from the band will be made available through iTunes.
We still don’t know, and McCartney isn’t telling us, saying only: "We've kind of bypassed that [download problems] because now you can do it in 'Rock Band'," he said. "I always liked that, when you're told you can't do something and suddenly there's a little route round the back."
We’re hoping Apple Corps. and Apple Inc. have also found their own backstairs route to shoving music up onto iTunes.
UPDATE: Stand easy, as it looks unlikely music from The Beatles will make it onto iTunes tomorrow, with EMI continuing to drag its feet, denying legal music downloaders the chance to purchase music from one of the world's biggest bands. Speaking to the Financial Times, Ernesto Schmitt, EMI’s global catalog president, said: “Conversations between Apple and EMI are ongoing and we look forward to the day when we can make the music available digitally. But it’s not tomorrow."
Which seems a great shame.
Meanwhile, here’s a video trailer for the Rock Band game, currently announced for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii...

...but you can go back to sleep.....EMO!
all i know is that for a Beatles fan, that video was just wonderful
Torrents.
'nuff said.
all these Rockband videos were played during McCartney's concert in Piedmont Park in Atlanta last month.
I'm still amazed how fresh the music sounds after all this time.
I'm a little torn about the iTunes issue. It would be great but I also associate listening to the Beatles with the smell and feel of putting their LP's on the turntable, the sound of the needle moving into the music and the Apple Corp logo rotating.......it's old analog school I know but for me a real part of the experience being very personal.....I can't imagine skipping ahead or through any part of Sgt. Pepper for convenience.......plus for me a part of the Beatles always remains ephemeral......just out of reach.......I shudder to see Hey Jude stack ranked against the latest from Miley Cyrus........nothing against Miley........I'm just not ready to de-personalize the experience for convenience......

ummm....... wait, if the title is a rolling stones saying, why would there be annoncing the beatles?????
ummm..... OMG! wow! I never thought about that! I'll bet nobody did.
This is ridiculous. All that is happening, and you guys are falling for it big time, is that this is nothing more than a massive, global scale marketing stunt. FWIW, I'm in England, and as I write this letter, the Beatles are being played on Radio 4. Beatlemania all over again.
they're a little late to the game regarding digital content.
their music has been released on just about every single musical format that ever existed.
why would you want it digitally? the quality is sub par and there is nothing tangible to have buying the low quality audio files.
if you're a beatles fan, i imagine you already have all their music in whatever format, including bootlegs that will never be released.
so what's the hype over beatles on itunes?
Those EMI people are truly braindamaged.
Obviously EMI has to wait until all four prime Beatles are dead, forgotten, the music unwanted and the possibility of sales approaching zero before they give the OK. I've got May 23, 2037 in my office pool.
I am just wondering with all the extras in the new box set - quicktime videos and photos - if it won't be used to show off the rumored Cocktail.
What would better showcase the rumored Cocktail than a Beatles collection. It seems like EMI and Sir John would support anything that further amplifies this most recent Beatlemania. It would play too much into the "late to the game" theme by simply releasing the music on iTunes without some new twist. Being the first to showcase Cocktail would be a be a win/win/win for Apple, EMI, and the former Beatles.
