iPhone Tethering en route... luv Steve (sent from my iPhone)
The iPhone tether issue keeps coming in and out of conversation. First, rumors said that it would be added to the 3G iPhone, then it never came. Then Nullriver released Netshare for a day before it was taken off (it is a pain in the backside btw but works for emergencies). Now someone says they have word that there are talks between Apple and AT&T on this.
Some screenshots would be nice (especially with header information), but apparantly a Gizmodo reader got a message from Stevo's iPhone saying the following:
AT&T offers data plans for BlackBerry that include tethering for an additional $30 per month (a total of $60 per month for the BlackBerry+tethering plan).
It seems ludicrous that the same thing is not offered with the iPhone. I understand the desire to prevent tethering with the current data plan, but I am willing to pay more money to allow tethering! With such an advanced device, why can I not do so?
From "Steve" to their reader:
We agree, and are discussing it with ATT.
Steve

So take it for its worth...
...the email could have easily been made up or said something like "rocket powered tablet". Going forward, can we get a little more info?

According to this articles, Rogers allows it. http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/08/28/tech-iphone.html
It's crazy to think that Apple thought it was a logical decision to pull the NetShare tethering app from all iTunes App Stores worldwide. After all here in Canada both Rogers and Fido allow tethering on the $30.00 MSF 6 GB data plan. If a user somehow exceeds that limit they get a data alert via SMS (text message) from the carrier. Since AT&T isn't in Canada they shouldn't be dictating to Apple how they run their business or what apps are allowed on their product.
Welcome to the concept of contract law and the limitations of the iPhone App Store and OS.
yeah, I don't buy this crap, seems like an awful lot of email from 'Steve' lately...
Maybe some people really do think Steve Jobs is sitting at home replying to random people on his iphone...
The great thing about these kinds of BS rumours is you don't even need photoshop skills, just the ability to type :p WTF has it to do with AT&T whether the iphone supports tethering anyway? The phone is sold in 22 countries now.
Why not allow tethering in contrys where they allow it.
AT&T is not the only compaty to have the iPhone anymore
Steve also sent me this:
"Hi Phil,
Yes I agree, it is ludicrous that you aren't paid money for using MobileMe.
I'll talk to my lawyers in the morning.
Steve
Sent from my iPhone"
If it was sent from an iPhone, wouldn't "ATT" have been corrected to "AT&T"?
Haha, busted!
