Techcrunch says iPad coming in the Fall
Michael Arrington of TechCrunch says that 3 independent sources have confirmed that Apple is getting ready to build an iPad type of large iPod touch device. Specs given are sparse but they anticipate a 7-9 inch display.
The August release time frame coincides with Apple's yearly iPod refresh. This would also give the PA Semi sufficient time to have turned out a ARM Cortex class processor.
Along these same lines, we think some cool stuff should hit during WWDC in the form of a higher powered iPhone...but we have no word from any sources.

...at some point in the future apple may or may not release an unspecified product! U heard it here 1st
The netbook market is a con. The PC makers are loving them because it means they can push the prices of their 15" machines back up again, whereas they were heading rapidly toward netbook prices not so long ago. The cheapest 15" Dell has doubled in price in the last few months.
Apple will position something between iPod Touch and netbook to make sure it won't cannibalise sales of the MacBook too badly.
So if the new device's display is rumored to be 7-9 inches, but also compatible with apps, does this mean that an iphone nano would be possible? One of the biggest rumor crushes about the iphone nano is that it's smaller screen would not be compatible with itunes apps. But if this new device's larger display is compatible with apps then surely apple could make an iphone with a smaller display that is also compatible with apps? Just a thought, I'm not too familiar with technical know-how.

I would love to have a netbook with OSX, but I am considering one with Linux because I don't want any device running microsoft, A netbook to me is a barebones 10 or 11 inch screened notebook. 1 GB RAM, 20GB storage(flash or HDD), WiFi and ethernet, 2 USB, sound in and out. Also barebones software: word processing, internet browser, push mail, calendar, IM and chat. and ability to watch streaming video off the internet. No photo or film editing. I crave a basic internet based communication device that is easy to travel with. The computer industry are the ones trying to cram the device with macbook pro specs and out feature each other. Basic, lightweight and durable. Retail price always below $450, higher priced = notebook. The ipod touch is too small. Double its size, but then you still have the proprietary nature of the Apps store. You can not even add free software without apple possessing your credit card details. This is totally unacceptable to me. Call me paranoid. Apple most likely loses hundred of millions yearly because of this practice.
Well, Apple is famous to come along and change the meaning of certain words (mp3 player and cellphones for example).
I agree with you in many points but I don't think that the "iTablet", "iPad", "Macnetbook" or however it's going to be called will only work over the app store. It will probably be compatible, specially with games, but I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to install regular software like Skype or maybe even Word. The only thing that bothers me is if it's going to be a mini Macbook (keyboard) or a maxi iPhone (touchscreen).
In either case it will be made for mobility. So I wish they add a 3G card slot.
As far as price I would see it around $499 to $599 (Apple never goes cheap). Maybe $699 with a pricedrop after 6 months =)
when I have my iPad, I think I'll go live in one:

I'm not surprised that Apple isn't planning on releasing a netbook. After all, Apple is by no means a follower. Apple is an innovator. The iPod touch being the prime example in leading the path for the future of MP3 player's interface. I think the iPad would be very innovative....a nanobook that is even more responsive and interactive than a bigger netbook because of its multitouch screen. We'd all be shocked if the iPad doesn't allow word-processing or the likes.....otherwise, what's the purpose of the bigger screen besides apps that the iTouch can do? I'm hoping the iPad would come with a portable keyboard that has a docking station built in....allowing it to be used just like a netbook/notebook.
