Apple's Tablet runs iPhone apps according to Flurry
Flurry, an analytics company that tracks iPhone apps, says that over the weekend they started seeing Apple Tablets (no rez proof is published) which are running the iPhone OS 3.2 (not 4.0?). The tablets are running a variety of iPhone apps but seem to be leaning towards Games, Entertainment, News & Books and Lifestyle apps.
Update: I've gotten word from Flurry VP of Marketing, Peter Farago on the specifics below.
Hi Seth,
This is a fair question. We feel confident that we are looking at the tablet device for two main reasons, that I can share with you. Also note that, as a company, we have experience tracking new Apple hardware devices in the past.
1) If this were an iPhone we were looking at, the hardware would tell us when we ask it (via the software). So we can rule out that this is an iPhone. Also, we already see verified iPhone devices testing OS 4.0 and these leave (Apple's Cupertino, CA) campus, whereas this device does not. This makes sense given the secrecy around the new tablet device as the launch event nears.
2) The apps being tested match up to what the devices is supposed to feature (e.g., news, books, etc.). We cannot share further detail here due to Terms of Service agreements we have with customers that use our service, but feel that if you were able to see the data we see, at the level of granularity, it would be clear to you as well.
Of course the truth will be revealed on Wednesday, but we wouldn't publish such a report without a high level of confidence.
Flurry is not interested in building a business on rumor, but rather authority, credibility and accuracy.
Thanks,
Peter Farago

3.2 for Tablet, with announcement of 4.0 SDK due in March (Mac Pro revision then too, please).
It could just be a new iPhone variant...
Since I'd guess that the tablet would use an OS version 1.0.
I don't think Flurry is reading the tablet. They are making assumption based on their data. This just might point out to either a new iPhone or perhaps the tablet might come out with multiple versions.
I say that the tablet, while a great gaming machine and e-reader, will also have at least some productivity capabilities.
I guess the fact that Apple Tablet can run iPhone apps could be taken for granted. iPhone has been a super success because of all the amazing apps available on App Store and it's natural for the Tablet to follow the same pattern.
Haha, maybe this are the clones in China...

I saw a picture of a sasquatch with one!

I don't understand, how are they "tracking applications"?
Are they inside App Store or what? I don't really understand...
There are stats/trackers for apps... I guess they are testing regular apps with tracking codes on prototypes.
No Offense but,
Saying the Apple Tablet runs iPhone Apps is like saying that Apple is holding an event this week.
If it were not for the massive success of the App Store (and potential yet to come), there wouldn't even be an Apple Tablet. Yes, i'm serious. And its very easy to understand.
#1 Apple didn't get serious about releasing a Tablet until the success of the App store was obvious.
#2 Apple would not release a new product that isn't in some way tied to its brand new money making scheme. Apples loves its revenue stream from Apps, and the insane amount of usability that 100,000+ Apps drive.
Trust me, App Store is just as important to Tablet as it is to iPhone, if not more.
That sounds as if you're not going to be able to put "normal" applications (the ones you download from all places on the internet or you already have on your other computers) on that device, only apps from the app store. I wouldn't like such a closed device. But let's see what's going to happen on wednesday.
I absolutely agree that the tablet will utilize the extremely popular app store but it also makes very little sense that it would run 3.2. It's basically inevitable that Apple will release 4.0 sometime this year (Wednesday?) so why would they run a BRAND NEW device on old software. I think Flurry might be seeing new prototype iPhones that are running a more stable version of the software for testing than the tablet running old iPhone software.
