Hackintosh hero?: Sony VAIO X gets Mac OS X
The Sony VAIO X Ultraportable is a popular machine for PC users - just imagine how much more popular it might be if it were a Mac.
Now you don’t have to imagine, as at least one Hackintosh head has managed to "Make It So..".
Insanelymac forum member Asama took a little time to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard onto his VAIO X, using the hacked build of the OS that was thrown out for installation on the VAIO P. The DIY tech-head had noticed just how many components are shared between the two Sony systems, so took a chance on the P install.
Apparently, the only casualty here is that the hacked non-Mac's WiFi won’t work. Replacing the WiFi card with one that's supported by the 'P' release isn't trivial, necessitating a certain skill with a soldering iron.
Anyway, if you can live without WIFi (and let's face it, these days who can?) then take a look in wonder at the new MacBook Air, from, erm, Sony...

Why go to all that trouble when you can just use a Mac for OS X?
@cajuboy - Why go to all that trouble? Mainly because Apple doesn't have a netbook form factor notebook. I have a hackintoshed Dell Mini 9 which is small enough that I can actually open it on an airplace and has superb battery life.
It's in no way a replacement for my MBP, just another form factor that makes sense in some circumstances.
Also, it's quite likely that the Sony would work with a USB Wi-Fi card, which is a pain albeit a small one.

the best netbook is in my pocket, its called the iphone. this website is a regular yawn these days...
Yeah...maybe...if you can stay connected.
I have an iPhone, and two iPod Touch models.
None of them can stay connected to my home wifi...and all of my computers including the macbook pro can.
so WTF Apple...your mini devices are nothing more than overpriced bricks that Steve pooped out of his ass, narrowly missing his inflated head.

If everything works minus the WiFi card then its worth it. Only please put a tutorial for soldering option.
What? It's lighter then macbook Air and it has a longer battery life.
If u have enough money and the option of getting a vaio x with osx or a macbook air which one would you get?
