Snow Leopard using older version of Flash?

According to UK security vendor Sophos, the shipping version of Flash in Snow Leopard (10.0.23.1) isn't the most recent.  In fact, it is a few months old and likely would have installed over a newer version had you kept up with Flash updates.

Sophos being a security vendor, recommends Snow Leopard users to update to the latest version of Flash, lest they be vulnerable to the latest security attacks aimed at Flash users.   To find out what version of Flash you are using, head to Adobe's Version tester here.

Adobe have also reccomended that Snow Leopard users upgrade their Flash players:

The initial release of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) includes an earlier version of Adobe Flash Player than what is available from Adobe.com. We recommend all users update to the latest, most secure version of Flash Player (10.0.32.18) -- which supports Snow Leopard and is available for download from http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer.

or you could just avoid flash all together

 If only...

How is this news? The latest version of Flash was released after SL went Gold Master, just like the fact that most printers come with a disk full of out-of-date drivers.

I don't see the big of a deal here. Just update the Flash player and it's done

Maybe I'll stick with it anyway. Flash's current crappiness is almost enough to make me install Silverlight. Almost, but not quite.

After updating my macbook to 10.6 and reading this story I did find that I had Flash 10.0.23. However, I honestly couldn't tell you if I had the updated 10.0.32 with 10.5 or not.

I hope people aren't going to freak out too much about this. A new operating system had a minor bug that was brought to our attention less than a week after release? I don't see much scandal in that.

I am more curious why sites requiring flash don't give the normal alert saying "A newer version of Flash is available, would you like to update?"

I'm in the habit of updating Flash every few weeks. It's a moving target, with frequent updates.

When was the last time you updated Flash on Tiger, Leopard or on Windows? More than a few weeks ago? Then you should go to Adobe and do an update today.

ClicktoFlash for the win. Without I'd just abandon Flash altogether since so many pages with idle flash ads eat up so much CPU.
