Mac version of PurpleRa1n iPhone3GS jailbreak available

Available for download now.  If you want to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS and have a Mac, you can now do so.  Interestingly, we are hearing that Ultrasn0w, the SIM unlocker for iPhone 3G from the iPhone dev team also works for iPhone 3GS (in many cases). 

Once you have Cydia from PurpleRa1n, you can install UltraSn0w from there.  The whole process takes about 15 minutes.

It took 2 weeks to hack the iPhone 3GS.  Strange.

I am thoroughly impressed by this dude. He hacked the first gen iPhone with the help of some Russian friends, he came up with the boot loader exploit for those same phones that led to the boot neuter by the dev team and now he has cracked the iPhone 3GS which is a marvelous feat considering the new securities in place.
But please journalists, let's get something right here: it did not take 2 weeks to hack the iPhone 3GS. Geo took ONE day to jailbreak it. It was hacked in 10 days.
And in as much as I am receiving my brand new 32GB in a couple days, I am not sure I will be using GeoHot's method simply because the Dev Team has more support for their method and they seem to have everything working properly. I mean, what's the point of jailbreaking if Cydia doen't work properly?
But I agree with him on his standpoints in being more aggressive than the DevTeam. You have an exploit, you use it and keep the cat and mouse game going.
Just throwing this out to the air...
What if he can work on the baseband and get us a bootneuter like function unlock got the 3GS? Imagine it. One exploit and neuter means that no matter how you upgrade the OS, the baseband will be forever PWNED! Just like the 1st Gen iPhone....

wow, pc version not too long ago and now a mac version. either there is not much to it or this guy really got going to bring it to mac users. i have used purplera1n (but boot camped to windows) and everything is perfect. haven't tried ultrasn0w yet . . .

Just had Winterboard send me into safe mode. think i read this on the windows version posted yesterday, but just wanted to put it out there. Does it work for you?

Five Rows/Dock and Notifier works. I'm sure Winterboard update will come after 3.1. Looking forward to that so my 3GS will match my 2G in look/feel.

Its currently incompatible with 3GS so saurik (the creator) is fixing it. It will be working within a few days. Follow him on twitter @saurik for latest news.

The reasons are becoming less and less to jailbreak. The only reasons I use it now is for PDAnet Tethering and Tricker3g for Skype and Slingbox.

biteSMS ? That and Winterboard are the only two reasons I JB my iPhone !

biteSMS is pure wickedness, it lets me send texts worldwide at a flatrate of 6 EUR. cents. / $ 0.10 (which is 3 times cheaper than my local SMS) and the app is much more polished and contains more features than Apple's native SMS app, at the same time, not losing the native look.

i have a MacBook running 10.4 tiger.I downloaded purplera1n but cant get it to work i click on the app icon and nothing happens and i mean nothing at all.

Its not compatible with Tiger.. I'm just wondering, if you have a Mac and (are rich enough to have an) iPhone (LOL) why don't you upgrade to Leopard ? You don't know what you're missing out on !

If not, try on one of your friend's Windows PC. You do have friends, right ? :-)
