September 8-11th: Apple Event. Steve's return to the stage?
Update: d'oh! Labor day is Monday and Kafka said "week of" September 7th
AllThingsD's Peter Kafka is quoting some Industry Execs saying that the week of September 7th will be the big day...or as they put it: One of Apple's Famed Keynote Events. Monday is Labor day in the US but September 9th...09/09/09 seems like a better fit to us though we've heard nothing specific.
Multiple music industry sources say Apple executives have told them the company is planning one of its famed keynote events for the week of Sept. 7.
The Internet is abuzz right now with speculation. The timing makes sense as the past four iPod events have been in early September (to get those back to school kids in a lather) but Monday would be unusual for Apple as they often go with Tuesday affairs.

Isn't that the Labor Day holiday? I would be VERY skeptical of rumors pointing to an event on a holiday Monday.
Labor day?
The rumor about the opening of a iTunes/Apple on-line store in Brazil is circulating, september 7th is Brazilian Independence day, it's unlikely but anyway....
I think the 9th is a lot more likely, but still kind of weird to do it after a holiday weekend. Although I do think we could see 3.1 released by this date.
My thoughts are that they should do something cool with the iPod classic.
When you just want a device to play music as you're walking to work or the store, touch screens are useless.
Need something physical so you can fast forward and skip through songs you're not in the mood for.
Hope they release a mass capacity SSD version.
I agree with Seth here, the chances of this thing happening on a Tuesday are HIGHLY unlikely. The past 4 years' events have fallen on Tuesdays and one Wednesday. I guess it's possibly, but my guess would be the 8th.
One argument for the 7th would be if they want to actually have the product hit stores on the 8th, hence "launching" the product on the 8th.
I can't see the "Event" on the 8th since Sept 8th is the cutoff for the 'free iPodTouch with purchase of MacBook' and to announce an iPodTouch with camera, etc. on that date would mean a lot of problems for Apple Customer Service trying to explain why someone could not order a MacBook on Sept 8 and get the new and improved iPodTouch. And besides that is the day after Labor Day and it would mean a lot of attendees would have to travel on Labor Day to get to a morning meeting in Cupertino.
As a friend pointed out, having it 09/09/09 would have a 'geek' factor to it
Timings for everything are screwy this year because Labour day is a little late - on the 7th, in fact. I don't see them doing a launch on tuesday the 8th, we all know how they prefer the second day into the week.
yeah, I have no predictions, I'm just a naysayer. Nay! Nay!
Speaking of Labour Day, it's fun to insist on wearing white after Labour Day and then try to find people who'll tell you that you're not supposed to do that, so you can ask them, "why is that, exactly?". Nobody knows...
it DOES say the "Week Of" sept 7, not Sept 7 specifically.
The internet, I'm afraid, can never be "literally" abuzz.
ya that is the sound your hear emanating from the power lines and transformers in the summer time.
I thought that was the sound of Google indexing my brain
The even will likely not be on the 7th (the insiders say the week of the 7th). Given the history of apple Keynotes expect any new devices to be announced Sept 8.
It clearly says "week of" september 7th. not september 7th exactly. I would say the 8th, but apple usually does its keynotes on the wednesday if monday is a holiday, so put me down as 9th.
Any Apple watcher knows that Apple makes announcements on Tuesdays, not Mondays.
I for one an not expecting the tablet on this day (but would not be surprised if it appeared or was announced.
We know that September has always been the iPod event, however, it may migrate into some more total for Apple! Apple will not be part of MacWorld as Steve has pointed out in the past that its not the ideal time to deliver new ready to ship products (January).
Hence, we will see new iPods, a new iTunes with social networking features (akin to Doubletwist), and possibly support for BlueRay. We WILL also see the final and available now Snow Leopard which will add support for BlueRay to all Mac desktop's and laptop's if indeed BlueRay is coming to iTunes. It is not a huge exception therefore to hear also the iMac's, etc... are now shipping with BlueRay drives.... OOOOHHH I almost forgot, the return of Steve to the spotlight.
The September event might be about to morph into a Major Apple event to position it for the holiday season....
I add this is all pure speculation on my part, but given the rumors, the orders that Apple have been placing and Apple pulling out of MacWorld, all this is possible.
Grab the popcorn!!!
"I add this is all pure speculation on my part"
Aw, really? Damn.
Thought you were from the future.
P.S. Another good burn would have been to tell you that no one really bases anything on your speculation, so it may be better to just not say it next time.
Not Monday. It's Labor Day!
My guess is that it's just an pre-holiday iPod refresh.
I think everyone has forgotten that 9/9/9 is the official launchof the complete remastering of the Beatles complete collection and first ever digitial download access from iTunes and other online sources.
Maybe Apple will announce an exclusive iTunes availabity for a week? Maybe a retro Beatles Hard Days Night iPod special edition.
I dunno, but sounds like a major historic music day!!
