The time has finally come. Games like Quake 3 are hitting the iPhone platform. It is particularly cool to see the accelerometers being used to control the action.
Bonus points for controlling 2 players at once.
Apple's new gaming platform looks to be shaping up quite nicely.

"could stil be two iphones playing movies..."
Watch the video again. I suppose in a very cynical world it could be rehearsed, but when he tilts, the character changes direction and aim. When he taps his finger to fire the gun on the left one, you see the shot simultaneously on the other from the other point of view. Very good synchronization of two movies starting together, then tilting the two hands, and tapping at all the right times. Not impossible, but why bother? Much easier to believe it's just the real thing, isn't i?

Well which is easier to do:
a) Download Quake 3 source code, understand it, write code to supply the accelerometer function, compile it, test it several times and modifying accordingly, then make this video.
b) Record a couple of videos and rehearse the tapping timings two or three times.
We'll see if this shows up in the Installer.app feeds...

@jt3k:
That's a very odd argument, and one that's not correctly applied here. It might be reasonable if it was somehow hard to believe that Quake or Doom could be ported to the iPhone. But it's not. If you've watched the unveiling of the SDK, you'll have seen that the iPhone is capable of exactly what you're seeing in this video.
And what would be the point of faking something like this anyway? Why would you go to the trouble of faking something that's easily within the reach of a competent programmer? How pathetic would THAT be? Seems like they'd have faked something a little more impressive.
Personally, I don't think first person shooters will be fun to play on an iPhone, once the novelty wears off. But it was obvious people would make them. And we'll see if I'm right or wrong. (I can't lose, because if I'm wrong, I have a fun game on my iPhone)

Dude...check installer.app for a game called iPac3d. I have it on my iPhone right now.
The movement, accelerometer graphics, dungeon maze, etc are all almost identical to what we see in this video demo of Quake 3. The only thing that seems at all difficult is the actual multiplayer aspect of that, and given the hackers have already gotten all kinds of networking applications to work, it's no stretch to think they can't send some packets back and forth, is it?
I doubt this will show on installer.app, but show up first day in the iTunes App store when it opens for business? Pretty good chance, don't you think?
P.S. I don't care for the accelerometer based movement control; but I'm an old fart whose hand eye coordination isn't what it used to be.

It seems to be really great... want to test it... does anyone have a clue about the dl for the engine... I'm pretty sure that it uses the data files from the original disc I have stored here.

so yeah obviously debates about these just being videos...but how would the guy be able to "fire" but not bring up the playback controls of the movie? when you tap the screen once on an iphone/ipod touch then the controls come up...and even if you tap the screen twice, the controls show up for less than a second but they don't appear when the guy in the video "fires" so maybe it could be real....
I'll believe it when I play it.
Could still be two iphones playing movies...

Can't wait until it is fully ready to launch, I'll be playing Quake 3 all day long.
what a completely retarded
what a completely retarded remark.... from a devs perspective ill let u know right now.. this is completely believable and 100 percent genuine.
It can't be two movies
It can't be two movies playing because when he taps the screen the pause/play menu doesn't pop up!
sad bastards discussing this

Any ideas about links for dl?
