OK, Jailbreakers, time to update to 2.2
That took a litlte longer than 24 hours but it's a weekend so we'll give the Pwnage crew a break. There is now a jailbreak for the new 2.2 version of the iPhone and iPod touch.
Of note, the 2.2 software updated the baseband on the 3G iPhone and the Dev team warns against Pwnage the regular old way on this one as you'll upgrade the iPhone 3G to the new, less hackable baseband. Instead, they've put together a plan which gives iPhone 3G owners a way to enjoy 2.2 Jailbroken without updating the baseband.
What's best for the Dev team is best for us. Hopefully none of the reported problems with 2.2 pop up for you jailbreakers out there.

"What's best for the Dev team is best for us."
Yes, obviously the best for iPhone users is to use hacked versions of Apple's software releases. I can't wait forums to fill up again of random problem reports and jabs to Apple.
It is the same thing after every OS X update. Somehow those with the most marginal OS hacks always manage to forget their customisations and blame Apple for breaking their systems.
I want to say that the process did not work for me as in the jailbreak seemed like it was working fine but then it did not install cydia or installer on the 2.2 firmware i downloaded from itunes. yea i know i should not have done it but i did not know until too late. But I found a way to get my phone jailbroken again. YEPPIE..... What I did is found a 2.1 software bundle on the net then i went into itunes and pressed shift then clicked the restore button to restore then i browsed for the restore file for 2.1 and it allowed me to install it once reloaded i went and used the pawnage to jailbreak it again and what do you know it worked. Now that was not too hard was it
I'm so thoroughly disappointed with Apple's iPhone firmware 2.2 update that it's yet another reason why people such as myself jailbreak.
I love people when they say "I am disappointed with the update" but don't say WHY.
SO, WHY ARE YOU????

No copy/paste, no ability to send a vCard for business users from the "Contacts" list without using a third party app, no MMS, no video recording, no enhancements to the camera such as light settings or timer, "Photos" still doesn't list my iPhone Event categories which currently appear as a jumbled mess on the iPhone, no ability to tether (Here in Canada both Rogers and Fido allow tethering), no A2DP, no landscape typing for email and SMS, etc. Several of these features are only available after I've jailbroken the iPhone. Though we shouldn't have to jailbreak if Apple would actually implement at least some of the features their customers have been asking for since the first iPhone 2G model was released over a year ago. Otherwise they need to be less restrictive on their App Store policies for who gets to post their app and those that don't.
I'm not having any of the problems reported so far. All works well. I need to mention here that my iPhone 3G is fully legit. Sim-lock-free out of the box. No issues with 2.2 whatsoever.
What about the audio line-in? I was really looking forward to that feature, but is it really available in 2.2? How do know for sure? And how do I activate it?
I'm just glad that Safari is stable again.
Have successfully Jailbroken firmware 2.2. Used the Mobileinstallation file from 2.1 etc.
SwirlyMMS - needs an update as it's not working.
iRealSMS - also needs an update (although it still works).
Snapture - also needs an update, home screen is illegible under 2.2
Not come across any other issues.
So, I was using my iphone 3g (from USA) with a sim proxy card and I was amazed about the update, so I updated my iphone 3g. SO the baseband is updated too, and of course the proxy sim doesn't work any more...
Right now, I have an "ipod touch" instead of an iphone :(
well, 100% my stupidity...
I have a 1st gen iPhone. I jailbroke it before the 2.0 update. Now I haven't been able to use pwnage tool to jailbreak it again. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, but after "building" window I end up getting an I Haz Fail window. I end up giving up. Any ideas? or should I just be happy with what Uncle Steve provides? I really miss my old medieval look that I had before the update.
Anyone successfully QuickPwnd using the latest MacBooks? I get a perpetual spinner at the last step.
