Pro Apps and MacBooks to see update at WWDC

We just got a call in from our favorite Apple source who says that Apple is going to have a minor update at WWDC for MacBooks and MacBook Pros.  He said he wasn't sure what the minor upgrade was but there was speculation that there might be some sort of 3G hardware built-in and/or speed bumps.  Perhaps even non-removable batteries on the smaller sized laptops.  Again, that part is just speculation at this time.

Also, he said there would be a big Pro apps update.  Final Cut Pro, Aperture, Logic, Shake should all see significant updates.

We are still waiting on news of the 10-inch netbook/tablet device.  We don't have any specifics or timeframes yet because this project is being kept under lock and key.  We hope to have something better in the coming weeks.

Update: Whoa! could we be looking at OLED Display updates?!

That's all ... for now.

WWDC

@Noob June 8th will be the keynote by Steve....Schiller (maybe Jobs, doubtful though).

There are three things that I

89102

There are three things that I think are a *must* for WWDC. In the absence of these things I believe that the press and investment community will have a very strong negative reaction:

1) Keynote from Steve Jobs
End of June/beginning of July would be the stated time for Jobs to return to Apple after his 6-month leave, but the WWDC keynote is a big enough event for Apple that I think the press and analysts will expect to see him there, even if he doesn't return to Apple full time for another month.

2) New iPhone
This has been rumored so much with sufficient circumstantial evidence to support the rumors that if it doesn't happen, the analysts will really hurt Apple's stock. Based on rumors, expect greater capacity, improved camera, and a 3G chipset that supports 7.2Mbps.

3) Snow Leopard
I expect Apple to introduce some impressive aspects of 10.6 (Snow Leopard). As previously stated, these aspects of 10.6 may be internal improvements and features of importance more to developers than to end users, but the improvements will give everyone a high level of confidence that Mac OS X has a long life ahead of it.

I would be very surprised if we see news about MacBooks or Pro Apps at WWDC. WWDC is the wrong forum for those kinds of announcements. New MacBooks and improved Pro Apps are likely in the works (aren't they always?), but Apple can get more press attention if they use other events to introduce these things. This week at the NAB show would have been the natural event to introduce new Pro Apps, but perhaps Apple wants their own forum.

Built in 3G

Although I love the idea, I would be sooooo mad if they did that, because my unibody mb would feel useless next to it. Then again, how does that make sense if they're adding tethering to the iPhone 3.0 firmware? I know, I know, AT&T could not activate that, but seriously folks, imagine the headache that would come with buying a macbook and having to activate through AT&T. Although, they could subsidize it and make it nasty inexpensive.... oh the possibilities...

There, fixed that for you.

i would love a mac tablet, please bring this out at wwdc

Eventually they're going to

90110

Eventually they're going to add the non-replaceable battery to the lower-end laptops too, right?

Sweet, I want Logic Studio 9

96132

Sweet, I want Logic Studio 9 like now

I'd bet more on Logic 8.1

97104

I'd bet more on Logic 8.1 since it's at 8.0.2 right now... if they even touch it at all, that is.

All MBPs should have 4GB of

104103

All MBPs should have 4GB of RAM as standard. I see no reason to have a 3g card embedded if you can tether your iPhone. I'm not going to pay AT&T $60/month when you can tether for a third of the price. As for the battery I wouldn't mind but a lot of other people would. As long as it has great battery life (double the real world battery life), it's not a problem for me.

I would consider a non-replaceable battery a major update because there will have to be a redesign of the lower half of the case.

30-Inch LED Cinema

11494

One more thing I like to see at WWDC 2009 is new displays for desktops especially the 30-inch i've been waiting for this update for a long time and I don't want to purchase the current cinema displays even if it still a great display i'd just rather have the updated LED display, So I hope we will see some new displays in June

New LED Cinema Displays

Dude, there is EIZO, NEC, ...

93115

... you don't have to buy an Apple-Display. Or are you so much fanboy, that it has to be an Apple-Display?

It is a Joke, that it is not possible to connect more than one computer with an ACD. I habe two Computers. If I use Eizo, I can connect two computers with DVI and change in less than a second the schreen with a button.

Can we have Firewire 800

11398

Can we have Firewire 800 added back to the Macbook please. Then I might upgrade my old Macbook. Until there is Firewire, no upgrade.

IF they move to a removable

8486

IF they move to a removable battery
They might hav space for the FW

There is definitely not

93103

There is definitely not enough space on the left side to add a FW port. It's that simple. I wouln't mind if the would remove the optical drive - that would make space for FW and Expresscard.
It's really funny the current Macbook has just two more connectors than the Macbook Air. A second USB port and Gbit-Ethernet.

So Function follows Design - right?

93102

So they have to change the Design, that there ist more Space. Design should follow function - and not like Apple is doing it.
The same thing for glossy. I know a lot of people who were interested in Macbooks. But Glossy is a no go. So now they have lenovo and dell latitudes books.

There is also no space in the iMac für a quad core and Anti-Glar

69116

... and you Pay 2000$ for an iMac and get just an Dual-Core and a Glossy-Display.... because für Apple is the Design more important than the function! ;-)

Dont forget the non removable HDD

91102

... because Design is more impoertant than function, right?
So if the hdd is defect, you are not able to change the hdd. Normally it is an easy thing, that you can do in some minutes. If you have an iMac instead, you have to bring it to your ASP - with all your data on it. But the design is nice, that seems to be more important :-))

My gut says no Jobs at WWDC....or tablet!

79103

No Steve Jobs and no tablet at WWDC.

My gut tells me that Steve Jobs will hold a special event after WWDC (October maybe?) where he himself will make a triumphant return to Apple while using the event to showcase the Apple super tablet.

Watch...it will happen!

No Tablet, Ever.

9485

Or not. Because there will not be any Tablet. There is no market for this. The iPhone & iPod Touch ARE the "Tablet" you are refering to.

Aperture 3.0

9093

Me, I'm looking forward to Aperture 3.0...

And, of course, Snow Leopard.

In a couple of years, when my MBP 17" (last pre-unibody) will be really outdated I'll shop for some 8-core 15" MBP with an exterlan 1mm thick 30" screen :-) 32GB RAM...

Jokes aside :-) I really long for some updates in Software, and the new iPhone which I will buy immediately (it cost me more last year to buy an iPhone 3G because I signed a 12 months contract with the carrier, to be able to buy the new iPhone hassle free).

Please Macbooks without Glossy

9289

- better Battery Life
- no Glossy (or an Option to choose)
- Firewire-800
- maybe eSATA
- higher Resolution, in the hope that snow leopard uses the resolution independent gui

Pro-Apps will use OpenCL? :-)

Macbook Pro 15" WITHOUT Glossy!

9693

This would make me happy:

- please, please, please Macbook (Pro)s with ANTI-GLARE screen option
- higher resolution screens on 15" Macbook Pro
- skip the CD drive and use space for either battery or SSD

In reality, this is what's going to happen:

- minor CPU speed bumps at WWDC
- nothing more at WWDC regarding Macbook (Pro)
- October 09: quad core cpus and all that would make me happy above :-)
- remember: you've read it here first!

"I see no reason to have a 3g

8987

"I see no reason to have a 3g card embedded if you can tether your iPhone. I'm not going to pay AT&T $60/month when you can tether for a third of the price."

And you think AT&T will allow you to tether your iPhone without charging you $60/month?
(Well, it might be less than $60 but probably not free.)

F*** I just bought a new

74106

F*** I just bought a new MacBook Pro for $2600 last week.

no more Shake

8693

Apple have already said long ago that Shake would not be updated again. Ever.

A replacement for Shake (the long rumored Phenomenon) could be revealed but no updates.
