Premium App Store en route for iPhone 3.0

The iPhone is likely to get a premium App Store if rumors from Wired are true (and previously from Pocketgamer).  They say game developers, enterprise developers and other premium vendors will soon have  a place to sell their wares free from all of the free and $.99 drivel that pollutes the regular app store.

They put the $20 price point as the barrier for entry into the new "velvet rope area" premium App Store.  No game developer would, of course, corroborate their story.

This, of course is a rehash of January's Pocketgamer.biz's story of the same subject matter

Meh, who would pay $20 for a game. The app store is great because you can sell a game for $.99 and still make tons of $$.

To Answer both of these comments...

The platform for $.99 games is still there- and will remain very profitable. A Premium App site would fill a void for those wanting even more robust gaming and are willing to pay for it (aka Playstation & Wii gamers). There is a large market here and Apple would like to be in on it. So yes, there are many who would be willing to pay $20.00 for higher end games (just as there are those willing to buy $ 60k BMWs instead of a Ford Focus).

A $10.00 market... Well it too is already there... most of the 'better' games at the App store are in fact $.9.99.

This is simply expanding on a great market with better product choice with even more revenue opportunities. Win/Win seems to me!! (or should I say... Wii/Wii)

What an asshole thing to say.

The $20.00 game market on the iPhone is gonna go over like a lead zeppelin. Enterprise apps will have no problem selling at $20.00 and more because most enterprise apps are hundreds of dollars per seat but nobody is gonna pay that for a game. Be smart developers...keep your games at a reasonable price and you'll make more money.

Sorry, there is NO WAY I am paying $20 for any iPhone Game. $9.99 is my break point and that had better be a pretty awesome app.

Actually I'm pretty happy with the dozen games that I have and may not even buy anymore. After all I just play them very occasionally to kill a bit of waiting time.

yup

well, i love the iPhone heart and soul, but there is no application that i would use 24/7. there are tons of great apps out there, but i can't see myself buying a 20.00 app. developers, the task is up to you to make something so interesting that i have to have it, and then charge 20$ for it. good luck, haha
