10.5.6 moves Trackpad system preference out on its own

Along with some other sneaky stuff, the 10.5.6 update moved the Trackpad system preference out of the Keyboard & Mouse pane for all Leopard laptops. This brings parity with unibody MacBooks who've had the separate pane since inception. The pane offers a limited amount of multi-touch functionality (below).

How is this "multitouch functionality" any different than what was there before?

Answer: It isn't. It just has a new preference pane. It's a painfully worded headline.

What is apple waiting to give us (early 2008) MacBook Pro user the 4 finger multitouch ?

I mean.. it's been proven successful so what the problem is ?

Do they REALLY think I would change my less than one year $4K laptop just because they don't add that feature while it is possible for them to add it very easily ?

They better get that thing to work !

Has anyone notices that on notebooks the batter menu has changed? You no longer have the direct option to change your battery settings. You now have to go into Energy Saver Preferences.

And instead of "Charged" it says "Not Charging" which I supposed is technically more accurate, following their 'don't charge over 90% full batteries' policy.

actually, no.

the trackpad location and configurations have been there by default since first implemented with the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro Late 2008.
