iPhone gains MMS, sorta

iPhone owners have gained MMS, well, kinda.

New application Palringo is available now from the App Store. A free app, the software lets users send picture messages, text messages and (in future) vocal messages using an iPhone's data connection. Better still, the app integrates with most instant-messaging (services: AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Gadu, ICQ, Jabber and Windows Live Messenger. And iChat.

As Palringo is also available for many models of mobile phone, this means an iPhone user can engage in messaging with most everyone they need to make contact with. Sending voice, picture or text-based messages to an individual or a group are single screen-tap operations.

The service is available worldwide, which means conversations can include people from across the globe, on any mobile network or connected PC or Mac.

No. It's an instant

No. It's an instant messenger client.

MMS != 'send pictures to AIM'.

The whole point of MMS is it's available everywhere because everyone with a phone has a phone number (and everyone has a phone whilst not everyone has email).

IM to phones is a very limited market.. at the moment to iphone users only, basically. So you end up with an app that can send images to other iphone users provided they've installed the same app to receive them. Or you could use email which doesn't have those caveats.

sending photos

Although Palringo is available on the iPhone, it also works on all of the other major phone platforms--most devices from nokia, sony ericsson, LG, motorola, HTC, Samsung, Blackberry etc. That means a Palringo iPhone user can IM his buddies who are using Yahoo Messenger at their desktop and if they download Palringo to their phone, they can communicate! the same process works with photos and voice messages--you can send them from iphone to nokia and vice versa. The Palringo application doesnt just work with iPhone.

so you can send and receive photos from desktops, laptops and other phones who are using palringo.

all in all, a pretty nifty application--much more than just an IM client!

Privacy concerns

The developer has already admitted on the Palringo support forum that the IM doesn't encrypt data leaving not only your log-in information visible to traffic snooping but also your conversations. I also don't understand why a person must register with Palringo before they can use the app. If I don't want to use their support forum then I shouldn't need to register just to use the app on my iPhone. Other multi-chat messengers don't require a user to do this other then enter their user log-in and password for the email service they want to use (ie: Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc).

IPHONE SUCKS

I just wanted to let you guys know how I feel about Apple products. My iPhone is HORRIBLE. I have replaced the first gen iPhone I purchased, 4 times!! Finally after I received the 4th one, the 3g was released. Now I have the 3g and It laggs. It's very slow and crashes all the time. If I knew better, I would of waited until December.

Try a HTC diamond, then you

Try a HTC diamond, then you can talk about slow.

But to bad you had it replaced 4 times.
What was wrong whit it? and was it the same all the times?

Stupid Program

I downloaded this app and it sucks. It's not worth downloading. It's just like the app "Twitterific". You have to join groups and create groups. It's not your everyday SMS app that allows you to select a specific mobile number and send. It asks for the recipients email address or Palringo ID. So before you download, read some reviews.(here is mine)

Its Ridiculous that we need

Its Ridiculous that we need an additional App to send MMS messages on the iPhone any way! We need to start a campaign against Apple for this!

MMS or not

3232

Well Yes I also want MMS.

But on the other hand apple is pushing ther push mail.
So if more mail provides will support push mail.
Or better yet some how you get a PHONE-NUMBER@provider.xxx
that is exthange push supported then you will kill the need of MMS

Yes the dilema is you need to give you phone number and mail adress to people, or phonenumer and you provider, and if you switch provider, and keep your number, you need to tell everyone that they need to update.

But whit push mail you can send picturs in higher resolution, and more media type.
But then yes. the one you send to need to have a push mail account and there phone set to use push.
Then they will resive it at the same time.

There is a lot of but... if.... and so on. So yes untill then then yes let us get MMS, that is not that hard it's just as easy as linked SMS's

Stop fucking whining! If you

3327

Stop fucking whining! If you don't like not having retarded MMS, then return the freaking phone and buy a crippled VZW Razr, or another shitty thing like that.

If you rather pay the fucking 25 cents to your carrier for every time you send a stupid picture of your girlfriend's underwear... then the iPhone is not for you.

Fucking Aye!

Whining

3437

Sorry, it's pictures of your mom's underwear that i want to send to all my friends....oops, but they have cell phones like 90% of all other people on this planet - that accept MMS - so I guess I'll have to go BACK to standard technology. slime ball.

What's ridiculous is that we have MMS with the Email app. Just send the picture to the email address of the phone with MMS (for example, 9995551212@mms.att.net or 9995551212@vzwpix.com) and they will get the picture.

For the other person to send to you, they just need to add the email address you use on your iPhone to the contact information they have for you in their phone.

For sending to users on other providers, I find this to be more reliable than MMS and it's included in my iPhone rate plan. MMS will cost extra...

iPhone lacking MMS

3734

MMS is not the only thing lacking from the iPhone but it is one of the most requested. For all the people making their ridiculous comments like, "if you don't like it don't buy it," there are thousands more that want and miss this feature.

For those that argue that the iPhone has sold by the millions even with out MMS & even after people knew there was no MMS, they're just grasping at straws. When the Model T Ford first hit the streets everyone wanted one, then people asked "Can I get it in any color I want?" and the answer was yes as long as the color is black and people bought it anyway. People just want the latest and greatest, you have to keep up with the Jones'.

Of course the first day the iPhone hit the market people were lined-up wanting the latest and greatest cell phone available, never in any of the advertising did they mention that it has all these features BUT MMS. I'm sure the general public just assumed that it would come with it because it's supposed to be so much more superior to the rest. GEEZ, even the cheapest and most generic phones on the market have MMS capabilities. (Insert, "then go get one of those phone," here) It does help with everyday life for those that are savvy enough to know how to use it (my parents do not, and it has to be explained every time, it just doesn't seem to stick) your at the super market "Hey hun, is this what you were looking for" take pic send it over, "yup, that's it" or "hey wish you where here" take pic of vacation spot send it over. Sure you can send pics to iPhone users but you have to log on to a website (given Safari decides to let you onto the web) then use a log-on and password just so you can see a tiny thumbnail of a picture. I have just given up on viewing pics that have been sent to me, because logging on to a website to see just seem like a step backwards and a waste of time when it can be easily sent to the phone and put the big screen to use.

So I must say that the iPhone is definitely two steps forward and one step back.
