Orange UK publishes iPhone prices - no price war (yet)

Orange UK has published the prices and tariffs it will offer new iPhone customers when it makes the device available in the UK on November 10.

Expectation the carrier would spark a price war with iPhone incumbent, O2, seem dashed by the initial offering, which also includes options for Pay-as-you-go and/or business customers.

A number of Orange stores will celebrate the arrival of the iPhone with early opening at 7 am on 10 November. The company has seen more than a quarter of a million customers register their interest on our website.

Competition in the UK market is however set to intensify, with Vodafone expected to offer the device from next year, when the UK’s smallest carrier, 3, has also said it expects to begin offering Apple’s device.

It drives me crazy how Apple be get sued for inaccurately advertising phone speeds, when all they were dong was simply trying to show off everything in a 20 second or so clip, while at the same time phone companies can tout UNLIMITED internet browsing, unlimited until of course, you reach a 750mb LIMIT!!!!!!!

The world has gone mad.

at least O2 doesn't limit 3G/WiFi speeds!!

A limit to WIFI? surely that's a miss print?!

Who's Miss Print?

Oranges miss print

YES!!!! Keep all the prices the same! Apple
dosent do cheap! And the iPhone isn't fully subsidized
they need to male their money some how

TYPED ON O2 Iphone

Do Orange limit the 3G speeds then? I'm on O2 and my contract is up so was hoping that I could get better UK 3G coverage by moving to Orange, but if they limit the speed then there's no point. The tariffs are the same anyway (for me, anyway). I have a friend who works for Orange - Maybe I'll check with him for the final word on the speed thing.

Was hoping this might bring some competition to the marketplace, but clearly Apple has it all nicely tied up. Wonder if the EU's anti competition/price fixing laws might apply to this...

I was talking with a friend about whether carrier competition in the UK for the iPhone would actually produce lower consumer costs. I argued that the UK carriers generally exhibit 'cartel' style pricing structures with very little to differentiate between them. If you compare the Orange iPhone prices to the O2 prices seems for once I might have a point ;-) Compare the Orange prices with O2's at http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/paymonth.html to see the differences - they are minimal. This appears to be more about encouraging existing Orange customers not to 'jump ship' rather than poaching O2 customers...

There will be a bunch of customers who just want the Iphone, they will pay no matter how much the tariff is, once these sales have dried up, the prices will most likely drop. Probably when Vodaphone get the iPhone. Either Vodaphone will offer it cheaper OR they will offer it the same as everyone else then everyone else will drop their tariffs immediately.

Thats when it will all start to benefit us.

The Cloud? Does Orange have it?

lol... max 750mb of wifi per month

Is it locked to Orange or is it a free iPhone?

At least Orange is clear on their limits. O2 are not and just state "Unlimited Wi-Fi included in your tariff is available at any of the Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud and BT Openzone. Excessive usage policy applies."

So what is "Excessive Usage?"

I'm not sure how much I'm entitled to use.

To be fair, most of my iPhone usage is on my home wifi.

orange and O2 are price fixing hopefully the EU will see this and bring action and fine them both not fair and the prices should have dropped by £5 at least

Just been told by the disconnections guy at Orange that they cannot add anything to the iphone deals as "the tariffs and hanset prices are set by Apple!" HOW IS THIS NOT ANTI COMPETITON AND PRICE FIXING??!!
