Unreleased Apple product sighted in California - no images (yet)
There’s definitely an unreleased Apple product looming - and while that bald statement is pretty much an eternal truism, product marketing plans for this one are advanced, a report this morning explains.
Apple has already filmed an ad for this new product, and, as you’d expect, security was tight on the film set yesterday. “Because the product they were advertising hadn’t been released, members of the group didn’t release any information, or allow any photographs,” a local report claims.
The ad was shot at a Californian restaurant - a beautiful 1940's style diner - called Jax on the Tracks, which was chosen by a location scout. Filming took place Tuesday afternoon, with restaurant owner Bud Haley telling the Sierra Sun, “Apple found us, they’re trying to show us as a hip and cool spot for the 20-something crowd.”
Now we can only imagine what this unreleased product may be, but the location and target demographic most strongly suggests a new iPod ad to us, potentially involving a new model iPod touch - equally, we can see the target demographic as being an ideal one for the much-rumoured Apple tablet device.
After all, we think this system will be aimed fair and square at internet media-centric people, possibly in education, perhaps in their first jobs, who move around for work and pleasure and have a steady income.
We’re interested to see this ad appear, if only to find out what the unreleased product’s going to be. And as we head into the news blackout which constitutes August’s news agenda, we’re happy to report yet another little nugget that boosts expectation as we approach Apple’s next major product introduction cycle...

When you say retro diner, I think jukebox music. It's undoubtably an iPod ad. I fail to see a retro diner relating to a tablet.
It could try to show how advanced a tablet is in comparison to the analog '40s, but this still screams iPod.
Went to B&H Photo NYC Aug. 11 and was told that the current nano was being discontinued and there will be no more shipped, there selling what's left of there inventory.
It isn't even a year old. Lots of stores are still selling the previous generation nano, saw both at Best Buy this week.
Except for the whole record-sleeve style album art initiative they are working on. Rumored to be on the tablet. Jukebox flipping through record sleeves?
No pictures? what you guys think about this?

I don't buy it, sorry.
I'll probably buy it when it's released LOL

You don't say! No kidding, really?
Well of course you do. But ya ain't gonna see the ad until after the product reveal.
Oh, and what August news blackout? There are going to be news and rumors up until the day of the next Apple event.

Having been involved in a couple of these "Apple New Product Shoots", a lot can be learned by what happened at the location:
-- was the shoot during normal business hours?
-- were their any Diner employes present?
-- were Diner customers allowed to come and go?
-- were the glass windows and doors covered to prevent seeing into the Diner?
-- how long did the shoot take?
-- approximately how many "paid actors" were involved in the shoot?
I work very close to the diner and it's a small town.
The place was for sale recently before it became Jax. It's one block off the main road which means that no one sees it easily. Apple wouldn't have to drape the windows. No one walks by.

There's no jukebox there. It's not a hip place at all, but I'm sure that the commerical will depict it as such. I like the food and I support the place. The waitress, who worked at the former diner there, is great.
after a day at Northstar or Homewood tho, that place is hella good.
the milkshakes were pretty great lol
Interesting things are happening at the iDiner. Now all we have to do is wait for the Apple Special Event to get our 'magic' fix.
Sounds like a good place to shoot a Cocktail or Itunes ad to me. It might feauture a new product, but I think it would be more to promote Apple's and record companies push to sale full albums.
I have a cabin in Truckee and eat at this diner all the time, thats funny its going to be in an apple commercial.
Cool, definately have to keep an eye out for this advert. Am going to keep this page bookmarked till I see it!
This diner is far from hip! After recently reopening, the food has yet to improve (though the prices have increased) and the atmosphere is completely bland. It has potential but I think it's sad that Jax is receiving publicity because of Apple. A restaurant's reputation should be built on good food.
I definitely disagree. Did you see the old Truckee Diner? This guy actually knows what he's doing! There is no comparison between the food at the old Truckee Diner and JAX. The atmosphere may look similar, although they did add some nice retro touches, but it has a completely different feel and look. It sounds like you're describing the old verion not the new and improved. Additionally, they've changed the menu since opening to accomodate their customers' perferences (based on these comment cards I saw them hand out) with decreased prices, nothing I've seen has increased.
I think it's great Apple chose them and am definitely curious to see what it is they did there (was it really a commercial?) and what product will come out.

The tablet _is_ an iPod. A Mac tablet is almost certainly not coming until Mac OS v10.7. And you can get most of the way there with the trackpad and a Wacom if you need it now.
On the other hand, on the iPod there is a gross mismatch between the HD movies in iTunes and the 480x320 pixels of the iPod. And there is a $600 hole in Apple's product line between the $399 iPod and $999 Mac. We have not really seen the video iPod yet, an iPod that is as good for movies as the earlier iPods were for audio. A 10-inch iPod touch with 960x540 resolution would play a "half HD" movie, which is basically the next size up from 720p. If you turn it vertical it is a book reader and full-size Web browser.
I wouldn't be surprised if the iPod nano got a touchscreen this time out, which would show video at the full size of the nano and make it much more useful and more like a modern iPod.
It's an iTab that has a Jukebox application installed. After user chooses a vinyl record and plays the song coming out from the iTab's speakers, he switches application to read today's newspaper, after having twittered "In a Diner."
Apple products are released after quiet a secrecy. They are focused on creating best so that they can give a good competition to the other brands, So its a wait & watch thing.
