Wow, that's absolutely classic! Almost sad that'll be torn down when it opens.
So what's so classic about this? Am I missing something?
It mimics the Green Monster at Fenway Park. The Red Sox, a Boston favorite.
There are better pics that capture the "Green Monster Effect" on TUAW's website:

I agree with the first poster - it's gonna be a shame to see them tear that down. Go Sox!
Why did the picture change? You previously had the picture from TUAW's site and now you have flickr.
TUAWs went down
I know New Orleans is katrina-ravaged. I know people think its in total disrepair...blah blah blah. Its not true. And its stores like Mac that would thrive with the type of personality this city has. Its the SanFran of the south...now if we could just have 1/10th the number of stores as SF/bay area, we would all be verrrrrrrrrrry grateful.
MacStore NOLA08! If a presidential candidate could guarantee that, he/she'd win my vote in an instant (kidding...)
You're honestly doing the city a disservice by billing it as not being in great despair and need. But yeah, a brand like Apple will thrive down there - because they're gentrifying huge swaths of the city and creating a massive class division. If you actually live in New Orleans, you're either A) Very Rich or B) Very Stupid.
That aside, I'm a Yankees fan and even I think thats extremely cool. Apple's got their finger on the pulse of their people, and they're just so much better at what they do than the rest of the industry. This is just so symbolic of why Apple has succeeded in retail while companies like Gateway and Dell have just done an all-around crappy job.
That's a really cute little piece of marketing there. Kudos to whomever came up with that one.
Just got back from dinner on Newbury Street. Here are some shots of the store at night...
