We waited a year for this?? The battery life is a scam as well. Same talk time only improvements on wifi. My biggest gripe with the battery is the 3g... Does it even work on n?
That's exactly what I said last year when the 3G came out.
GPS was nice, but $15 more per month for equivalent service (unlimited data + text), no option for people who live outside the limited 3G coverage, no increases in storage, getting rid of the flat metal back (easier to play games on a table with someone else, and the metal was much nicer)... sure GPS was nice, but it wasn't enough.
Some of you 3G'ers may be scratching your head, but when you add two underwhelming upgrades together, it's not such a hard upgrade to sell.
But, really, they need to pick up the pace a bit on iPhone advances... it won't be very long before someone passes them up.
i would say i would just for the 32gb size. the camera/video is cool too but its mainly for capacity. i have A LOT of stuff i cant fit on my 16gb so at least 32 can get more
I dont think you guys have looked at the cost to upgrade... there is no price break for current 3G owners. I was thinking about it cause my GF wants my 3G, but its not cost effective for the minor upgrades. ill be waiting unless i find a pile of money
There is a price break, just not as much of one. The 32GB iPhone 3GS is $700 without a contract -- only $500 with a "premature" upgrade.
But, really, just terminate your contract. The early termination fee (which is pro-rated, to boot) is less than the $200 price difference. It still sucks, but not quite as much.
I'm dissapointed, but then again all the Keynotes since the original iPhone announcement have been lacking. Hopefully Steve has been saving something big for his return. Oh, and, WTF AT&T?!?!?
Depends on whether or not Apple and AT&T will allow upgrade pricing for current iPhone users (just like how original iphone owners were allowed to get the iPhone 3G for the 199/299 pricing, instead of 399/499). If I have to pay $399/$499 for the iPhone 3GS, then I don't think it will be worth it at all. But if they allow 199/299 for me as a current iPhone user, then I most certainly will upgrade.
I would love to upgrade to the new one and i assumed that o2 would allow us to upgrade mid contract like previous. However, the word is you have to see your contract out or pay to end it. Arghhh, this is harsh. Why did they allow us to upgrade mid contract last time?
AT&T wants to charge $699 for the 32 GB 3GS iphone for current folks who have AT&T contracts for iphones.
These folks are rapists.
I'm a loyal Apple stockholder and iPhone user, but I will not be raped by this company.
I have a mind to screw AT&T by dropping my contract, paying whatever outrageous fee they want and kiss them goodbye, then buy a "broken" 3GS iphone and use it with Verizon. I'm that irritated.
I'm on the phone with AT&T now, and get this . . . AT&T does not even know about the new iphones.
Yup.
No idea.
What a bunch of morons.
I hate AT&T.
Why couldn't Steve Jobs have stuck it to AT&T and opened it up to working with Verizon?
I hate AT&T.
I am leaving those bastards.
Jailbreak, here I come.
Apple could not have done a better job at losing loyal customers.
They're raping us and not even offering us a cigarette afterward.

I'm angry too. But for the sake of many people who have unfortunately actually been raped, let's try and tone down the usage of that word for now. Alright?
Looks like from the AT&T Press Release that there is no plan cost reduction. I like many/most folks I know will wait. The $99 original 3G is sorta silly. That $100 difference between it and the much improved 3G S is essentially a month and a half of service cost in a twenty four month commitment. If you cant afford the extra $100, you really can't afford the $1,680 two year service costs. Or like me, are simply not willing to spend that much on cell service. I'll stay with my unlocked 2G on T-Mobile for now thanks.
As an original iPhone (EDGE only) owner, I just checked with my AT&T account and it says I'm eligible for a new phone. I'm going for the 32GB in black. Anyone want an original day 1 (originally $599) and 2 year old iPhone? By the time this next contract is up, Verizon should definitely have a version or two of THE phone.
The cost to upgrade is ridiculous. If I am signing on for another two years I should get the same deal as a new customer. I really want to upgrade but it just isn't cost feasible. Epic FAIL AT&T
If I am signing on for another two years I should get the same deal as a new customer.
You got it all wrong. You can sign on for a new two year contract, even if you are already under contract. I just ordered a new iphone 3gs for my wife - it wasn't an issue, and I didn't have to pay any additional fee.
However, also like a new customer, you can't bail on your 2 year contract.

Yeah, i would love this but, O2 ARE NOT LETTING 3G OWNERS UPGRADE IN THE UK, GGGRRR
You signed a contract. Deal

You have the option of picking up the PayG model (a cool £540 for the 32GB) and swapping sims, if you're that desparate.

Price break? Just sell your 3G on eBay. One in good condition easily sells for more than you paid AT&T for it.
Then bail on your contract, pay the $200 fee, and you got your discount.
Otherwise, wait until roughly 85% of your contract term is over and AT&T will let you do an upgrade without any early termination fee.

$399 Upgrade.... I'll wait
For those loyal Apple customers who got a 3G on release day, this early upgrade will cost you $399.
I will have to wait until 12/12/2009 to qualify for the "standard iPhone upgrade" date.
Once again, AT&T screws you over without even buying you dinner first....
For those loyal Apple
Eh? AT&T heavily subsidized your iPhone. Now, a few months later, you're asking them to subsidize another phone for you?
How exactly are they screwing YOU over? I don't get your point.
no, it's $314 -- ($199 + $115

Hate AT&T. Leaving those bastards. Seriously.

AT&T is raping its current iPhone owners.
