Reality:

Biggest surprise...
That they don't have a huge amount Hardware wise to make the world take note.
However I expect to see some undisclosed features of 3.0 arrive. (hopefully)
And please get rid of that annoying pop up notification screen! It's too Windows 95, I was in love when I saw what the pre does... Just copy them on that one and I'll be a happy apple iPhone customer....
My original iPhone is getting a little tired...
None of the above. The real surprise will be that little new is introduced other than improved iPhone hardware and 3.0. SL will not have a major UI change, and there will be no OLED iPhone display, no video iChat, and the cheaper iPhone will be the current iPhone.
...large disappointments because they will talk wbout short and mid term initiatives. Stock will go down as hype will not meet expectations. Has it ever been different? No big news, but very well laid out plans.... Just no instant gratifications that we all want to see. Of course, I hope to be wrong....

My expectations are low for this year's WWDC. I know there is talk about big things but I don't see any of it happening. The biggest announcements will be in with the iPhone, obviously. But, I don't see any huge changes there. Yes, it'll be faster etc... but that doesn't get me excited. I don't expect it will be enough to get me to go out and change in my 3G for the newer version.
I'm hoping for some news regard Snow Leopard. I'm convinced there are things that are as yet unannounced. Hopefully - being a developer conference - the keynote will show some of those.
The Steve Jobs video chat thing seems like a likely idea. It won't be much of a surprise but a crowd pleaser nonetheless.
Overall, fairly underwhelming - just like Macworld was. I expect there to be more events when Jobs returns that will have the real hardware announcements.
I'm hoping for some upgrade to a MBP so I can buy it - been holding out for months in hope of a June release of Snow Leopard.
I really wish that iChat (video) features will be announced but that may be a little to far fetched. It would be great to have a video chat with Steve using the new phone (a reversal of roles with Steve and Phil).
I think we'll see some significant speed demos of Snow Leopard and also hear a release data. Who knows exactly but I can guarantee it will be before Windows 7 just for the publicity.
We'll see a new iPhone (probably the all black version floating around -no silver trim) with the matte back and some of the undisclosed features of OS 3.0.
New price points for the phones as well as data plans from AT&T.
People will get caught up in the rumor hype, then be disappointed with reality, while those that don't fall for stupid rumors will think the keynote is just fine - neither exciting nor disappointing.
Steve Jobs will announce that his illness has merely been a transition to homo sapiens version 2.0.
This upgrade will be available worldwide within a month for a hefty premium price. As long as you are a Mac user.

Front-facing iPhone camera
Video iChat, initially over Wifi and eventually over 3G etc., is the only way for the new iPhone to really broaden Apple's lead again.

Kinda Steve.
It's not much of a surprise, but Steve won't be there. We will, however, get to iChat with him from his iPhone 3GS video!
Usual stuff...

Surely
It wouldn't be a big surprise if we could predict it?
All of the above are to some extent expected, so are not surprises.

Oh wait, that's not really a surprise, is it?
Steve Job will not present
Steve Job will not present physically to the conference. But WWDC will use the video phone feature of the new iPhone to call Steve Job.
