Give us free iTunes music, make a new "Apple Music Label" and pay the artists with that $30B cash Apple has on the bank, that until those greedy music labels are bankrupt.
Amazon? Years? hahaha, little over a year more like...
The record labels are screwing with Apple because iTunes has too much bargaining power these days. That's why Amazon got DMR-free music before iTunes and it's why now that iTunes has DRM-free music, they have to vary the pricing.
The industry is struggling to stay relevant and to have a say in matters, and this is one way they are trying to combat Apple's sway of the industry. The only problem is that by making all of these restrictions they are forcing people who have usually bought music from iTunes and other vendors to consider piracy; the very thing they are trying to avoid.
It's the same thing with movies. I PAY FOR a DVD and it's locked into the DVD, I download it for FREE and I can use it wherever I want? How does that help combat piracy?
Well I seem to have gone off on a rant, so I shall dully STFU.

I rarely purchase music on iTunes anyways, I'd rather have the CD and better quality/knowing I have a back-up (and I'm not one of those guys that thinks it's reasonable for Apple to sell lossless for their entire library).
I also think this move was necessary for Apple to continue as the biggest (or one of) music distributers.
I can find the $1.29 songs no problem. Why can't I find the $.69 songs???? Heck they might as well said we have $.10 or $.01 songs. Doesn't really matter if they only make 3 songs in the entre library that price
What I find worse than the new pricing is the fact that last night they removed all the tracks from the iTunes store that the labels were not willing to offer DRM free. Huge amounts of music just vanished from the store. Some artists that had multiple pages of albums now only have a single page.
So now iTunes is DRM free, but the already poor selection has got a lot worse, and the price has gone up? Great.
Also, there are no $.69 tracks. I've been looking steadily since last night and I haven't found one nor has anyone I know found one. Even Glenn Miller (80 year old music) is still $.99 a track in iTunes.
I'm all for paying what something's actually worth, but I don't think that is the case here. Take for example, the song Dammit by Blink-182. This song is almost 12 years old. However, it is one of their most popular tracks. Therefore, it is $1.29. You can see that there's a definite line where download popularity meets price, however, that line does not necessarily correlate with the actual WORTH of the song. It is nowhere near worth $1.29. Oh, and you can actually buy the album (Dude Ranch) physical disc, booklet, case, and all at Best Buy for $2.00 cheaper. Excellent price model, Apple...
If I didn't like OS X so much the new Shuffle mixed with this would really turn me off to Apple, but barring some massive changes, I don't think I could ever go back to Microsoft, so I guess I'm stuck.
I don't really care what the cost is on iTunes. I tell all of my friends to not buy digital things, and then I hook them up with Peer Guardian and block 1.5 BILLION IPs from connecting to them.
I don't pay for anything digital: music, movies, programs, iPhone Apps, books, audiobooks, DS games, PC games, Training (Lynda) or anything else that is digital.
You guys have polls more dishonest than those made by politicians. You can't possibly answer them without appearing to hold some opinion that has nothing to do with your answer.
Do you do this to intentionally piss people off, or just to be sure that your polls are meaningless?
Q: Are these polls nothing more than stupid navel-gazing?
• Yes, 9to5Mac's poll authors are retarded.
• No, 9to5Mac's poll authors are pedophiles.
• I'm a pretty little ballerina, and my answer is hidden among 3,674 inane posts below.

Good thing I don't use iTunes. If only there were a way to delete that stupid iTMS icon off my iPhone. It's taking up valuable space with no gain. Hell, even iFart is more useful than the iTMS.
I still like Sandy Pearlman's idea (record exec, original manager of Blue Oyster Cult)... make all songs 10 cents. Then, bying albums for a buck is a no brainer. No one buys individual songs. Overall volume leaps up. Too cheap to free-load.
I think it would be a fun theory for someone to test. It seems there is no test marketing of any of these plans.

well, thinking of it
I consider the right price to be 30 cents of euro. The real value of music is well below what we pay for it.
