But how the hell does Apple expect people to type on what would be a very small screen??????
sideways-aspect keyboard? And perhaps a more compact keyboard layout (such as one seen on the HTC touch) that almost resembles a regular numeric keypad with T9 when in the regular aspect? Seems pretty obvious to me. I don't know why so many people are stuck on the keyboard.
...it's all the applications' hotspots.
EVERYONE continues to assume that a Smaller iPhone would be sold for less money, when in fact, smaller, state-of-the-art technology is typically demanding higher sale price.
I would not put it past Apple, now that the current top-of-the-line iPhone, sells for $299.00, to come out with a slick, very powerful ARM-based Nano, pulling in $499 and $599+ prices again.
Due to it's processing power, miniaturization and overall sleekness (all the standards included, 3G, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.), the Nano will be primarily driven by voice recognition instead of touch.
Would not surprise me one bit, with Apples ever increasing desire, to set the standard.
I could see Phil pulling it out of a Deck Of Cards box.
Of course not with the showmanship Steve would have provided, but still a nice launching pad for Phil.
You're like a nerd with a crystal ball that doesn't work.

First one is what you want, and after that you'll probably like it so much you'll watch the others too. :)
Even so, imo the iphone 3G itself and its predecessor have a small enough screen as it is. What would have been astounding is if Apple were to take the screen of the iphone 3G and built a unit around the exact dimensions of the screen. Thereby creating a smaller device but maintaining the original size of the screen.
Now THAT would have been one helluva iphone nano!
The only way this is possible.
wouldn't messing with the resolution make a lot of apps not work anymore?
I'm with above, same screen size just the phone will be a lot thinner around the screen and in an itouch 2g thin way.
No way. Never gonna happen. Fake fake fake fakeity fake fake.
so in Thailand such a device has been spotted, this is just the case for that. Its not made by apple, just made to look like it is. Apple wont make such a thing.
I think this is an actual device. Theres an ad that leaked that looks legit and if you go to iphonenano.com it takes you to apples iphone 3g page. I dont think they look that much smaller in the ad but i may be wrong. you guys be the judge
http://www.jon4lakers.com/blog/2008/12/27/iphone-nano-ad-leaked.html
it looks like a screen shot of the actual apple page.
Nope. Still fake.
I am not one of those people who calls fake at every new product leak that is seen but that add is quite obviously fake. There is no way that apple is going to release the phone in those colors! They look way too candy-like for a phone that apple is a business oriented phone. Then you may say "well it's intended for the common user! it's the NANO!"- doesn't matter! The phone is still meant to be professional and not look like the colors of jellybeans. Also, the photoshop job just took the iphone 3G and collapsed the back of it closer to the screen to make it appear smaller. That's why the vibrate and ringer buttons look sorta messed up- a good reason to make the picture blurry as to veil his poor editing job.
I call fake on this whole nano business because the phone is meant to be fully-loaded. If it were a "nano" version and didn't come with the $30/month plan price so "more people would buy it" it would be USELESS! The vast majority of USEFUL apps access the internet and without an unlimited internet plan no one would ever dare use those apps. And i'm telling you there will be no "iphone nano" plan by at&t using only "edge" or some bs like that. Without an unlimited internet connection the iphone loses almost 3/4 of its value in regards not being able to use email/internet/APPS (other included apps also use the internet but i don't think that people are buying the iphone for constant weather updates- sorry).
I say this whole myth is debunked.

I can't believe that we aren't going to see a smaller, cheaper iPhone soon. The iPhone still seems like a top end aspirational product and I think Jobs wants to replicate the success of the iPod in the phone market. There will be cheaper smaller models and this is the year that they are coming.
What if it's not 'smart'? Just a phone and address book.
Then there's no reason for Apple to make it. Tiny margins and no value add for the platform.
Its all about the platform, not the phone feature.
The phone is the least important part of the iPhone.
Apple didn't just spend the year building up the most successful application development platform an distribution system in the industry, only to follow that with the release of a device that undercuts those apps.
I agree with Olternaut that the only shrinkage will be to completely eliminate the bezel, making the whole device the size of the current screen.
Remember, the phone part is a feature. Apple's money is on the platform, which means apps.
EVERYONE CALLING THIS A FAKE IS RIDICULOUS!!!!
It's Apple, they can do whatever they want and people will jump on the bandwagon and buy, apple history tells us this.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use your common sense!! I honestly think that no one has it anymore.
Obviously if 3, not 1, BUT 3 case makers come out with an iPod Nano case before Macworld, regardless if Jobs isn't giving a keynote, there WILL and history tells us 95% of the time, be a new product release.
It may not be at Macworld, but obviously there is going to be an iPhone Nano soon! Otherwise why in Hell would 3, yes 3, case makers make an iPhone Nano case all at the same time JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT! Again, it is imperative that you use your common sense!
For the dimensions, look at all the cases!! They are all the same size, it's not like one of them is portraying the iphone nano as slimmer and the same height, they are all just shorter and they are all the exact dimensions as one another!
USE COMMON SENSE!! 3 case makers would not have came out with a case simultaneously all the exact same dimensions if there wasn't going to be a new product.
What if those case makers are all believing the same rumor and trying to be first to market with a case for a product that doesn't exist?
Common sense indeed....
I don't really believe apple would be stupid enough to make a iphone nano that looks just like the normal iphone only smaller. If apple was going to make one it would make more sense to do something more like an LG shine or something like that with colors similar to the ipod nano. Or my personal favorite would make something about the size of the ipod mini with a slide out keyboard and a small touch screen for numbers and navigation.
What I personally could really dig would be to have it be the dimensions mentioned about, being the size of the actual iphone screen now, and ditching the mandatory data for those of us that don't need data, but still want to have all their devices in one. As far as being able to download apps goes, you would still be able to sink it with itunes, and an apps store online, and get all that content that way, instead of on-the-go. And one more thing, to make the phone for the other carriers...specifically for VZW. I like the idea of the iphone, just HATE gayt&t service. It's really such a crying shame such a marvelous phone comes with such shoddy and subpar service!
iDeals site in China... the prime mover of the original iPhone Nano rumor... says they may be wrong about iPhone Nano
January 1, 2009 LATEST
We Just got word that a major company stopped production on all iPhone Nano accessories. They believe the information they got is not real and want to cut their loses. This is the first negative information we got that might mean that there will be no iPhone Nano. If so a number of accessory and clone companies will lose a lot of money.

1) It's a fake. Maybe a case manufacturer is trying to get the others to waste their money by putting out some convincing mock-ups.
2) Apple has chosen to build a new device to get around the AT&T exclusivity contract early to compete with Android and Windows Mobile 7.
It would be expensive to start manufacturing another device and very difficult to get current apps working as well on the current device. It just would be harder to use. So, the only reason to do this would be to get on more carriers.
Hence, it's a fake or iPhone nano does in fact mean iPhone Verizon.
