"The two models of the iPhone on the market sold more than Research in Motion's Blackberry series, the entire Palm portfolio and any individual smartphone model from Motorola, Nokia or Samsung."
Holy... Quoting iSuppli, Reuters just broke out the iPhone sales report for July. I don't think Apple could have expected better...Reuters continues...
"While iSuppli has not collected historical information on this
topic, it's likely that the speed of the iPhone's rise to competitive
dominance in its segment is unprecedented in the history of the
mobile-handset market," iSuppli said.
"Apple achieved this in the face of numerous, well-entrenched competitors."

Glad to hear it but....
What are the real numbers. I think we all have a good idea what the true costs are on the phone and how much margin Apple has "earned"!
It's still foggy...
As recently as July (according to a Computer World article), Apple was estimated to make 50% profit on each iPhone (as had been projected in January). But yesterday the Taipei-based iPhone manufacturer reported lower profits than analysts had projected because of high production costs. No word on what percentage of the $574 million the manufacturer made was because of iPhone sales, or what exactly Apple cashed in on the deal.
Keep in mind that the info from iSuppli is based on market research surveys, so it is indicative of the overall trend, but can't indicate the real numbers.
