So Ars was right. The Apple event is going to be on September 5th. So will the Beatles. And iPods both big and small. But what else?

Oh, By the way.... That Coverflow screenshot is 480x320. Also poster Larry mentions it is high time for Logic 8 to be introduced. This is a big music related event. Why not?

logic
Well.. it might not be on the 5th but Logic 8 is going to be released very soon. As a beta tester my contract has expired (as original release was well over a year ago!) and somehow Apple have not renewed my contract!? Anyway.. I feel obliged to not say too much except the 3 years of development have payed off. It is truly a ripper. serious thought and flawless design have made this the most major competitor to pro tools ever. The main aim was to make this as flawless and as bug free as possible. serious time has gone into the interface design. it is beautiful and the work flow is very unique. it also uses a new audio engine that is not only powerful but sounds very good. as an audio engineer they have made this a program that sonically is comparable to a 20k + pro tools system.. still for the same price as the old version. there are many new plugins and a few synths have been consolidated into one synth that sounds truly awesome. It new one page modular window is a first and I've already heard a similar design will be used for future FCP versions. it is finished and has been held up by the manual and a few other formalities. There are even rumours floating around us beta testers that it may see the light of day under another name. there is also lots of talk going on between Apple and Apogee and hardware not on the market shows up in the preferences. I cannot say the name as it will point me out. but it is a sound card that is expandable and has virtually no latency. I have not seen or tested such device at this stage.
i can't believe how little there is out on the net?! this is the most tight lipped release I've ever witnessed! a few sites got things right earlier in the year but the passed 6 months have seen additional development that have not been mentioned anywhere!
Logic 8
@Larry,
I'm really interested in the new logic, I understand that you can't say very much - but could you tell us a bit more?
For example: Is the environment still there?
and has the EXS24 been revamped?
thanx

color-printer
they are introducing a new Apple-style color-printer? great!
I guess if it's the same
I guess if it's the same screen size they can both share software and video with no hiccups, pitty it wont be fully widescreen though.

Not a fake and not the Beatles
First off, this is not a fake; many other sites have gotten this invitation. Second that album does not say the Beatles, it is an album for the Beastie Boys. The writers and editors need to open their eyes before posting bad/incorrect information…

Logic 8
I'm praying for this one... I switched over to Logic simply because of the all-Apple integration, but rumors I've heard on the web have included an overhaul of the vintage synths, better sound, a single window interface (Thank you God) and a completely new UI... anyone else?
Just so you know... they
Just so you know... they said Beatles because the line 'The Beat Goes On' was from the last Beatles press release.
BEATLES - Obviously
Um - alphabetically speaking, what comes AFTER B-E-A-S (TIE)
It's simple - B-E-A-T (LES)
eesh.
It's killing me.
I would love to see Logic 8.
I would love to see Logic 8. As a logic user for many years I love Logic 7 but for me there are just one or two key things missing.
The one thing I would like to see most would be the ability to quantise real audio like the Melodyne plug in for example. That alone would be worth upgrade fee. Can anyone post any clues as to whether or not something like that is included?
Dribbling with anticipation!
Thanks for the info, larry.
Thanks for the info, larry. My big concerns are whether it will still open previous logic sessions, and how much functionality from 7 is going away. Rumors have been saying no environment, which would be fine with me. But there are plenty of tweaky features I really depend on and would have a tough time going without.
Is L8 pretty feature complete compared to 7? Some logic users are afraid of a situation like imovie 06/08 where an improved interface came at the expense of leaving out some advanced features.
And does it still use a dongle?
g5 laptop being announced
info must have accidently leaked out when they changed the website layout.

if u go to overview it shows an old imac and an old ipod. definitely not a new part of the website....

Here's a quick (and very dirty) Photoshop job I did to show the size comparison between the old and (apparent) new iPod nano, assuming the click wheels are the same size:

You can also see that the leaked 3rd party case fits the leaked "nano flower" image perfectly.
The third generation iPod
The third generation iPod had a weak bass response, as shown in audio tests. The combination of the undersized DC-blocking capacitors and the typical low-impedance of most consumer headphones form a high-pass filter, which attenuates the low-frequency bass output. Similar capacitors were used in the fourth generation iPods.
