RIM's 'iPod killer' - BlackBerry Storm, video
Everybody's talking about RIM's answer to the iPhone, the Blackberry Storm, which begins shipping in many markets from next month. Frankly, there's so much information on this circulating everywhere we were wondering what we could offer, but in view of today's survey which underlined the importance of video online, we've trawled around for this video, in which Vodafone's chief marketing manager, Frank H. Rovekamp, explains the key features of the device.
Key differences/similarities to the iPhone: 3.25-inch screen, 3.2MP camera, video capture, music playback, and (erm, hello, Cupertino, are you on this yet) copy & paste.

Futuristic computer sounds are from teh future! And so are buffalo!!
The Storm has no WiFi !
it a have wifi buy each provider can choose to turn it on or off, as voip is a real concern for the carriers. So it doesn't make the spec sheet.
According to Vodaphone (who made the video) their device doesn't have Wifi.
It also doesn't come with memory. It maxes out at 16GB via MicroSD. To the average consumer, one shopping at a local electronics store, that's at least an additional $150US on top of whatever the price of the Storm is. So it would have to be less than $150 with a plan to even sort of compete on price with iPhone.
The only thing interesting is the tactile touchscreen. I'm curious what this means and how it could adjust to portrait/landscape or other applications. Or is it just a mushy touchscreen?
"When you touch it, it feels like a button" What? Really? Wouldn't you want it not to be like a button?
i guess they might use vibration to make the screen tactile.
everytime u touch the screen it vibrates a little bit and thus making it feel like a button you press.
That's nothing new. They've been selling haptic feedback devices in adult bookshops since I was a kid.
Imagine my suprise/delight when I went in one looking for a Stephen King novel.
Sounds like a description of the Iphone.....I'm amazed not only that he makes it all sound like its new and innovative, but that he can keep a straight face about it

Why no demo ? I'm sure a 2 min video showing how good the keyboard works and how fast their browser renders web pages would be many times better than Mr Vodafone telling people how great the Storm is.
I remember being blown away when Mr. Jobs first demoed the iPhone.
Have to try the Storm myself before passing a verdict on it, but RIM are going to have to had put a huge effort into both the hardware design and software if the Storm is to be half as good as the overall expirience of using an iPhone.
The iPhone can't do that cute little dance with all the bright colors flying out.
So funny how these guys can keep a straight face while talking about the iPhone...oops I mean the kinda like new BB that has copied nothing from the iPhone. It's all innovation from BB what you see, nothing inspired, copied, followed.... nothing. ;-)
the best thing about this video...is that it doesnt show any of the features even though he is holding a physical sample.
the little dancing and swirling phone with bright background (as intoxicating as that repetitious crap loop was)...it was CG, as in NOT the real phone...and even then it still didnt showcase any of the features discussed.
then you had this ol'boner sitting there...holding the actual phone as far away from the camera as possible while he fidgeted around in his chair creaming his pants over it.
its like...hey...i got a great idea to promote our product....lets film someone reading the user manual...and then say "whammy wham wham wozzle"

Clickable touch screen?
That's like an elevator with a staircase inside of it.
While going up or down, you can still walk the stairs if you want! :-s
Hey- What ever happened to the Blackberry Bold? Wasn't it going to be the iPhone killer for September/October & Novemeber? I guess it's too clunky, expensive and bulky to be anything more than a door stop.
As for this video- what innovation! Right up there with Window 95 if you ask me.
