Is this the new MacBook Pro?

Fri, 09/26/2008 - 01:31 — Andy Space

"The alleged MacBook Pro (pictured at right) appears to have the characteristics described in early speculation with aluminum casing, glass track pad and rounded edges. The addition of the black trim around the screen looks amazing,” writes iPhone Saviour.

The new designed Mac laptops are expected to have a black surround to the screen, a la iMac - but given that this image appeared shortly after a speculative report exploring the new specs, we think the presence of an Apple logo-T-shirt-wearing element to the image actually suggests this is a Photoshop job. Well, we should know soon enough, come October, - and we're curious about the 'brick'...

Reflection?

Why is there a reflection of the dock on the glass trackpad, when it is not on the screen? Unless the trackpad has a screen, and is the new location for the dock...but I definitely think it's 'shopped...cool looking though!

FAKE

The image on the computer is not being taken by the built in camera.

Look at the Apple logo on the T-Shirt. It's shot in a mirror, and then pasted in.

you can change that under

you can change that under edit.

Awesome

I've been waiting to buy the new MacbookPro for half a year now, and it seems it's finally close to being updated. And it looks awesome! I've been a bit sceptical about the glass-trackpad but it does make a little sense to put the dock there. Anyway, I'm sure that apple has made an amazing product that eceryone is gonna drewl over.
As for the brick, I just think it's going to have the handheld abbilities of the iPhone and some of the power from the Macbooks. Not that I think of buying it

not quite

sorry to burst your bubble, but it's (supposed to be) a reflection. somebody got careless, as the first guy suggested. not that i would be surprised to see apple go art lebedev on us--and probably without giving him any credit, resulting in yet another lawsuit--but think about it. how could you possibly have a dock on the trackpad itself, and also still use it as a trackpad? it simply wouldn't work.

oh hell ye

if its real it looks good , lets just hope the 13" macbook has the same features ie the glass track pad . ohhh I'm so excited !!!

1) at that acute angle, you'd

1) at that acute angle, you'd never be able to see the dock icons on a glass trackpad, and 2) the icons on the pad aren't in the correct perspective.. they're half the height of the trackpad, which means looking directly at them they'd be 4 times as tall as they are wide... amateur fake.

Furthermore, thankfully Apple's design engineers have more common sense than people like you. They don't put in trendy features, they design in things that work. A TFT under the touchpad is a stupid idea for a number of independently-fatal reasons:

1) Your hands will be constantly covering it, making it very awkward to use.

2) Adding a second screen, at a categorically different resolution, and only available on some machines (i.e. not desktops) will make it difficult or impossible for app developers (including Apple) to make use of.

3) The cost to add it will raise the price of Apple's notebooks, in a market where they are already the highest-priced options. Notebooks are critical to Apple's finances, and there's no way they are going to risk that for a flash-in-the-pan gadget. If they EVER do this, it will be after some other manufacturer takes the risk to try it first.

Face it people, you're drooling over "gee whiz" features that are useless in real life. Apple's design philosophy eschews useless gizmo. I will not pay extra for that and neither will most of Apple's customers.

Bogus obviously

Of course this is crap, and the added attempt to make it look like an Apple employee took it (like an Apple shop clerk would be the first person to see one of these) is laughable.

And why would it make sense to put the dock on the trackpad? You wouldn't be able to see all the icons at once (it's too narrow for that) so you'd have to scroll up and down it looking for the launch icon.

Please. I love the ideas for all of this, but all we're gonna get is a revamped and thinner MBP and Aluminium MB. Personally, I tihnk that's a shame. I take my MPB on the road, and the Alu case constantly dents and scratches. If they had a discrete gfx option for the MB (at almost any price) I would buy one in a heartbeat. On my current MBP (like all my Powerbooks before it) the damn casing is warping again around the edges. At least the new designs will help that.

Whenever the main rumour sites publish one of these absurd fakes, all you do is envourage others to produce similar toss - please stop it.

It's fake but...

It's fake but I'm sure this is the direction that Apple will take the MB pro.

Things that new MB pro will have:

1, Black border to screen.
2, Curved shell like the Air.
3, Glass touch screen "trackpad" with full gestures.

Did you see that? There is a dock displayed in the trackpad.

Not Fake

As a photographer I'd say this is not fake. Everyone everywhere is screaming that this is a fake but is giving no real evidence. But we'll see if this was a fake or not when they release the new laptops.

You must be a pretty shitty

You must be a pretty shitty photographer if you can't see that the vanishing points from the edges of the trackpad and keyboard are completely different. How's that for evidence?

I love the controversy - and

I love the controversy - and what if it turns out to be real and the dock actually only shows on the glass trackpad?

Then again, I think its a photoshop too, but hey - right to know and that

:-)

Hmm.. the angel of the

Hmm.. the angel of the photographer is not consistant.. It is taken higher. The lighting of the room the person is in different (yellow light). And the dock is not displaying photobooth as the largest icon as last selected app. Also a dock in a glass trackpad is indeed to fiddly. Now I have to watch two screens to navigate? Not Apple'isch..

Angels we have heard on high

Angels we have heard on high dancing on the head of a pin.

The [angle] of the

The [angle] of the photographer is not consistent? Consistent with what?

The lighting of the room the person in *should* be different -- it's being imaged on a completely different digital device (the MBP iSight camera) that has it's own built-in rules for adjusting exposure.

My dock doesn't display the last selected app as the largest icon either -- because I have that feature turned off.

I for one welcome our new touchpad dock overlords. It gives you the benefit of touchscreen but eliminates the poor ergonomics of forcing you to lift your hand to the screen. Brilliant!!

consistent with the angle of

consistent with the angle of the camera/iphone, obviously.

Not so much....

Why is the DVD slot not straight? If you blow it up you'll see it's not straight... poor 'shopin'. The hitch is about 1/4 the way in from the right edge of the slot.

My iPhone requires me to push a button on the screen to take a photo.

My 10.5.5 dock only magnifies when it's moused-over.

And my personal favorite: the edges of the keys are lit from different angles as if from a really bright screen. Which is to say, the photo was taken with the keyboard lit from the screen. Clearly the screen is a super-imposed image.

And finally, the iMac have a silver aluminum trim around the edge of the screen.

The "poor shopin" may prove it's legit

Actually, the "hitch" in the DVD slot may actually prove the photo is legit. Most low-end digital camera's have a problem with CMOS crawl if you're not holding the camera dead steady. It results in portions of the photo being offset by the amount of movement between scans.

What does your iPhone have to do with anything? The dude in the shot is not using an iPhone.

The reflection on the keyboard is consistent with the image on the screen (not just the keys, but the bezel around the keyboard as well.)

And what if the *new* MBP has a silver aluminum trim around the edge of the screen?

Ummm... that's a first gen

Ummm... that's a first gen iPhone he's got there.

FAKE Just look at how he's

FAKE
Just look at how he's holding the camera, tha angle, then look at the way the photo is framed. It doesn't work out. Still cool though.

why doesn't the black frame

why doesn't the black frame around the screen reflect on the aluminum surface? the dark os X background does...

and yeah there are some photoshop errors

p'shopped

just look at the right side of the slot in...it's bending

i call it fake

Although Photo Booth is open, the green led is off.

Why is the shirt mirrored? This guy took the picture of himself in a mirror...

No, Photo Booth flips the image automatically.

am I the only one who HATES the black keyboard (a la macbook air). I know this is a minor cosmetic point, but still. The silver keyboard is just so much sleeker .

Yeah, I hate the MBA keyboard

Yeah, I hate the MBA keyboard too. You're not alone :)

Photo is shot in a Mirror

The Apple logo is backward. It is a reflection from a mirror, not an image from the laptop's built in camera.
