New MacBooks and MacBook Pros
Apple finally updated the MacBook and MacBook Pro line. Although, the upgrades are significant, they didn't include the larger trackpads that many, including us, had expected. The Pro line does have multi-touch now, however - though it lacks the new flat-key keyboard design that the MacBooks and Air employ.
The case designs for both lines are also the same.
The processors, video cards and hard drive specs are the only updates - which were expected. Grab all the details from Apple.

The 2GB shuffles are also now available.
The MBP keyboards are far more comfortable than the flat ones found on MBs and MBA.
Kudos to Apple for not switching to such keyboards.
Yawn... no new case once again...what is it now 4 or 5 years since they came out with this design?
So what? it's still perfect ...
It has been 5.2 years since the first release of the MacBook's current case design. The PowerBook G4, released in early January 2003, replaced the Titanium PowerBook design. It is visually very common with the current MacBook design
Dmn, looking forward to cpu upgrades of the iMac.
So when will the Airbook get its Penryn update? It's kinda stupid to have the newest notebook with the oldest processor. Will they update it soon or keep the 65nm models?
its a heat issue - you cant stuff a 45nm CPU into that small of a case currently ...
Don't the 45nm processors consume less power and aren't they more efficient (and therefore don't emit as much heat as a comparable 65nm one)?
Good. I don't like the black keyboard on the MBA. I mean, I like the keyboard, I just don't think the black looks good against the Aluminum. I'm glad they kept the "pro" keyboard.
As a regular reader, I've noticed the discussion on this site with laptops frequently comes to "Which carrier will Apple use in their laptops when they include it?". Well I think you may have a hint. On this description page for the MacBook Pro, 3G Wireless is discussed, and the card of Apple's choice is...
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/wireless.html
Seriously. Apple touts its "amazing wireless" but no integrated 3g or wimax or anything? Could someone please explain that? To advertize using a expresscard dongle for that, that seems rather against the whole apple philosophy of design.
I guess Apple is betting everyone will pony up for the MBP because virtually nothing has been done to update the MB. No LED display, no FW800, no multi-touch trackpad, no improvement in Bluetooth. Yikes! Why did they bother? And the MBP didn't fare much better. Pretty much nothing beyond multi-touch, LED and better Bluetooth.I'm sorry I waited. Marginally faster processors and marginally larger hard disks just don't do it for me.
hate that black flat keyboard on the mba and mbooks. glad they sticked with the old one. im pretty satisfied. lookin forward to gettin one.
Hahahaha. Fanboy. That rules.
those bastards. just this month i decided to get something newer i had the (ibookg4) macbook... and now is when they update them. i upgraded the hard drive to 160gb and memory to 2gb so i dont think theyll give me the difference if i return it. that is if i'm even allowed to return it since i customized it. sorry. i just had to vent. i didnt know this site existed. oh well. maybe next time...:

I have a question. Should I buy they new MBP right now or wait for a complete overhaul update for the MBP? I do not want to buy one right now and a few months later miss out on the next generation MBP (aluminum cases, 3G, WIMAX, etc). I want to switch from my old SONY laptop.
You might as well do it now Frank...
If it's what you need right now, then get it. I have bought 2 MBP's since they launched, and in my opinion at least, it's the best computing experience out there. You'll likely have a hard time missing the Sony once you get one. Seriously. And the gesturing they just added should be neat to play around with as well.
If you can or do wait, it might still be quite some time until they do a major overhaul f this very successful unit, and as others have mentioned, that will likely be when they update the chassis to something a little newer than the 5 year old design currently available. I'm OK with the current design though.
Hard to say what else they will change when they do re-design, but many today were talking about a larger trackpad, similar to the new Air. Anyway, I guess we'll see.
Good Luck.
