MacBook Pro mystery button revealed?
So you know that mystery port we found over the weekend? Well, our tipster just phoned in a lifeline for us. Hate to let you all down but....
It is the battery release button... :(
Actually to be perfectly clear, he said the battery ejector was on the side. Technically it could be that little circle thingy (which is on the MacBook as well). We don't want to go making assumptions...Anyway, yeah we're still hoping for something more exciting (dock connector!!!)...

HDMI !!!
PLASMA GUN!
A EASY TO GET JEDI SWORD
a normal HDMI port is thinner than an USB port
From what I know (can be argued my wife always does)
USB = 4mm x 12mm
HDMI A = 4.5mm x 14mm
HDMI B = 4.5mm x 21mm
HDMI C = 2.5mm x 10.5mm
Looking at the image it looks about the same height as the USB port but slightly longer although it is difficult to tell but I think it is either an HDMI port or an error in the manufacturing and the tape is the factory fix
Nope. Not so much.
No way they'll use a fairly large opening for a battery release system when they might as well use small round opening next to it. And since the mMacBook also has the small round opening, my bet would be that those are the battery release openings...
hey, haven't you realized that the notebook on the invitation doen't fit the casings we've seen??
I know it's not related to the topic, but I just found out...
yeah me too
It does, however, fit exactly with one of apple’s current offerngs, the Black MacBook.
When have Apple ever shown something new on the invitations? For example, the last invitation (let’s rock) showed either an old nano “now playing” screen, when the new nano was the focus of the event. (The new nano, which has a very different ”now playing” screen)
I told you all!! I specifically said the batter will be taking up the whole front of the computer, not the whole back like everyone thought. Woohoo! I mean that sucks..
don't be an idiot. you certainly didn't tell me, and you haven't even given us your name. i wish one of you self-proclaimed geniuses would figure out that you haven't, in fact, invented or predicted a single thing.
SERVED.
or the big one IS the battery release button and the normal Macbooks no longer have a user replaceable battery. Think Macbook Air. Besides if you're on the road a lot doing serious work, chances are you're gonna opt for the Macbook Pro
A dock for what? What kind of dock? Dock Dock Dock
I thing that PLASMA GUN! was correct answer :)
it is very very strange...? May by any new standard?
"...new standard?" isn't that sort of an oxymoron?
Um...no its not. Standards are created all the time, and recently after they are created I would think you would call them "new". The term standard has no bearing on whether the thing in question is old or new.
Or why a button at all? My current MBP doesn't need an ejector button, so why would the new one? Even with some fancy new battery and new placement it still makes zero sense. Imagine sleeping your MBP, putting it in your laptop bag, only to open up the bag later and see you accidentally ejected the battery, essentially hard powering down your MBP. That's why there is no point to an ejector. There is already a battery lock, so why do you need a physical button to eject? They are doing away with lid latches too, just more parts to break. Why add another part? Apple is about making the design as simple and streamlined as possible. This doesn't jive with that.
But perhaps the "brick" is a new type or capacity of battery. Imagine 8+ hours of power cord free computing.
It´s the button for releasing black holes. Seriously, the round whole is for screws ladies and gentlemen. Now let´s hope the Macbook doesn´t do an Air and the battery release button is also the MB or on the bottom case of it. Else a lot of potential buyers will jump of the Apple wagon.
Is it possible there are actually two batteries? This would allow hotswap and remove the need to string a cable across a crowded coffee shop. That could potentially jive with an eject button (though I still lean against that explanation).
I Cannot imagine, that no one has seen, that the small case have this too. Just take a look in the case upside down, and you will see.
I actually don't think that the bigger opening is for battery release cos then the MB would ahve one too, since it also has the smaller button thingy there. also, if it was the battery release button why would the MBP has one with a battery relase opening, yet the MB has only a battery release button without any battery slot? does that mean the MB comes without battery, cos that would be truely amazing!since they already ahve the battery lock it would make sense to put it now to the side where you can see it. thats just not apple style. really, apple is a company that lives off the highly designed products so why would they go and make a dell out of their notebooks?
seriously, I hardly believe it's for the battery. I believe it's some kind of port. ans as for the MB then...I really have no idea what the round opening could be.
The big one it's and ashtray holder.
The small round one a pencil sharpener.
Those guys think of everything!
If I was Apple, I would intentionally release photos that are not of the actual releasing products just to throw everyone off. Since they can't beat the rumor mill, join it.
Actually if you look through the little round hole when the MBs run, you can see millions of little fairies work. That´s how a MB works. With the little help of slaves Apple did catch, running inside.
I don't get it that everybody's talking about that button??? Okay, that's slightly important, but I think Apple's design is much more important, it is their trademark. And to me the new design is not that stunning, they cannot furfill the "thinnovation" of the macbook air into "innovation" of their new notebooks. I want something new, or no, infact I want the white to return, white is apple. It's the era of their white computers that made them big! And it's much more fashionable
Yeah, I also think, that the new designs are rather braveless (if they are for real), but please no return to white. It is always only good looking in the beginning, but after short time, it becomes yellow and ugly (yes in the hands of non-smokers too).
Or for example they can use a mat white casing. It's less sensitive to coloring than the glossy surfaces or inside panels in light grey :)
Maybe the mystery hole is not a button but will be a latch for a SIM-card holder for 3G internet access? Apple does away with dependence of the Dongles...
