Microsoft Turtle phone hits FCC

Our brief foray into Microsoft Windows phone rumors last September looks to have been pretty spot on.  ZuneBoards today shows the "Turtle" version of the phone we've all come to know and love hitting the FCC.  They prognosticate a MWC release on a Zune like Windows Mobile 7 OS.  So where's the "Pure", Microsoft?  Surely you can't keep that under wraps for another week.  

Is there any chance that these phones give the iPhone a run for its money?

How small is that thing? It looks like a good phone for kids - not much more than that. It is in no way an iPhone, Android, Blackberry, or even Palm killer.

*Not like Apple as innovated anything for a bit...

Really? Three years after the introduction of the iPhone and THIS IS THE BEST THEY CAN COME UP WITH? The rain and fog in Redmond must be too heavy for Microsoft to see the rest of the world.

Turtle phone might have scared the hell out of Palm about 5 years ago. But it's just a joke today. Just another check-list item on Microsoft's marketing to-do list, with no connection to what consumers actually want or need.

It's a turtle alright. It looks slow and buggy and is more suitable as a toy for children between 1-10 years old. I think it would sell very well – in the toys category.

You don't find even soap in that shape anymore.
I cannot imagine they are really going to build that thing. It will fit nicely in the pocket of your jacket...

Looks like users will have the same issues around orientation as we used to have with the old early BB devices. We used to say it was as if you're talking into an english muffin! Like Apple's old hockey puck mouse you can't get a feel of where the speaker is and often it lands off your ear making you think you have a bad connection., etc. This is all just a guess but it made me remember those two design fiascos and I hope for them this works better!

I think this phone is geared towards girls. A lot of girls love turtles, hence the shape. My sister has a square shape cell phone from LG and she loves it.

I dislike the phone, but it is a smart move from sales perspective.
