Some VERY Interesting iPhone Developments
More info from around the proverbial "industry water cooler" has come out today on the iPhone. Some interesting tidbits are starting to put the puzzle pieces together on how the iPhone will operate with the Macintosh OS (and Windows). It appears, at least initially - and this is obviously subject to change - that the iPhone will interact with the Mac OS through iPhoto as well as iTunes but not show up on the desktop as a drive like iPods do.
Also of note is that it appears that there no place for a SIM Card even though it was announced at MacWorld that it would be on top. There is no latch or place to change or swap it or anything else (battery) out. EDIT: Upon further inspection it appears that there is indeed a slot for a sim card but it is VERY well disguised) It's just one solid piece of hardware. This is obviously bad news for people trying to move carriers or take these overseas. It seems that Apple is continuing with prioritizing simplicity over options mantra. It does make for a better looking and feeling product. Or is this just preproduction models? Additionally, the latest builds of the iPhone embedded OS (Which have just recently been updated to 1.0 status) do not include iChat. Whether iChat makes it to the shipping devices or comes in later as a firmware upgrade remain to be seen. Obviously the lack of such an important application at launch will be a disappointment. Aside from these relatively small issues the reviews we've been hearing are great. Especially noteworthy is the Safari browser which has tabbed browsing. Also making the rounds are a VPN client which would be very exciting for business users. There has even been some speculation that Office documents will be supported. The biggest raves we are hearing are about the form of the phone which "..is just perfect. Small enough to fit in a suit pocket without messing up the lines, with an unbelievably large, bright, blemish-resistant screen." Also of note is the vibration setting which we can now confirm that the iPhone does have. As we approach Apple's most important product launch - perhaps in history - on June 29th, we are seeing the iPhone finally becoming ready for the masses.

Phone Number
Might have wanted to blur that phone number and serial
I think that's a screenshot
I think that's a screenshot from the keynote where it was introduced...
phone number
That -1010 number is the phone number of the front switchboard at Apple, Inc.
Blurred out number and serial...
Uh, it's my info!
So this is just a bigger
So this is just a bigger ipod with a bigger screen to scratch and limited support for music and video formats. who knows if it can even make a call. There are already so many other smart phones that put the iphone to shame. Japan has phones that make this one look like its from the 80's.
japan
so move to japan their phones will not work on the rest of the worlds networks. If the iphone is out of the 80s then the vast majority of its competitors in the US market appear to be no more than morse code devices
To much hype for a small bang.

Any links to these "Japanese phones" that put the iPhone to shame? Do any of them have the same size screen and a multi-touch display?
It's the SOFTWARE solution on the iPhone that makes it so special.
Japanese phones
this phone thats been out for awhile, before the iphone, is the same if not better. This website has phones and laptops that are only available in Japan.

LOL!! You do know that that is a fasion phone and it cannot even compare itself with current symbian phones, right?

i find it weird that lots of people like to comment on something before do enough research... LG is KOREA brand.
Who wants it now?
Eveytime I hear a news or rumor tidbit about the iPhone I want it less and less. If these are true then it clinches it, I'm not getting one.
1. Non- removable SIM card? Might as well have made it CDMA and partnered with Verizon.
2. No OEM and locked to Cingular for 2 years. No Thanks. Even if I could have the pone unlocked for overseas travel refer to point 1.
3. 8GB and no room for expansion. That's barely 8 movies. How about my music and TV shows?
4. I have to use iPhoto and iTunes? And no Disk mode? Again, Pass
All of you are idiots!!!
Yeah, your right. Only 8 gigs!!!
No phone comes even close to that right now. So, while my iPhone will have 8gigs of internal memory, eveyone else can carry around there SD cards for more storage
Pay attention:
1. Non-removeable SIM - if this ends up being true, you can bet it was required by AT&T to retain iPhone users and perhaps by Apple to control the market overseas.
2. No OEM & AT&T/Cingular - ummm, this has been addressed endlessly and still some of you can't grasp it: Some of the new technology (i.e. the new voicemail interface) required changes in AT&T/Cingular's network, thus using the iPhone on another network would render many functions useless. And who knows how tied in those functions are with other iPhone functions; you could end up with a phone that doesn't work at all. And we know how Americans are - they'll blame McDonald's because the coffee was hot, or blame the hammer manufacturer because it won't drive a screw.
3. 8GB - this is not intended to be an iPod replacement! Again, stated many times, but thick skulls prevail. If you really need to carry 8 movies, 300 hours of music and 36 hours of TV with you all the time, then this device isn't for you (and I'd say your expectations are a bit high).
4. iPhoto/iTunes - are you really surprised at this? Really?
Disk Mode - umm... there's no disk. Again, not an iPod replacement. Wait for the new iPod to come out.
I beg of everyone - please think things through before having an opinion or crtique. The world and your life will be better places.
ringtones tab
The Ringtones tab really bothers me. Does this mean "the new AT&T" is still going to keep "ringtones" separate from normal audio files stored on the phone, charging for them separately? or maybe they will somehow integrate ringtone sales to the iTMS? That would really suck, and it gives me another reason to keep my Sony Ericsson for a little longer.
Apple shouldn't be letting the greedy phone company keep the iPhone from being the fully integrating device it should be. The lack of SIM swapability is just absurd, and it also means AT&T can charge a $32.00 activation fee every time any SIM change has to be done to the phone.
iPhone
Julian, do me and the rest of us a favor and don't go buying any Apple stock between now and June 29th. I'll gladly snap up the shares you didn't purchase then I'll make a killing when Apple sells more of these things that you can even dream of counting. Sound like a deal?
the phone number
hee hee, googling the phone number revealed this: http://homepage.mac.com/steve/Resume.html at the very top of the list.
Doubt like heck you'd get Steve, or anyone else at that number!
:~)
"Aftermarket versions will
"Aftermarket versions will be hard to find as the price of purchase will also include getting out of a 2 year contract."
What exactly does this mean? Apple is buying people out of their current contracts?
It means that if you want it
It means that if you want it without a contract you're gonna have to pay the regular price + penalty for breaking the contract + profit for seller.
contract?

Prada is crap
Yea Im going to go pay $850.00 for that prada piece of S#!t when I can pay $600 and have several more features, and an amazing sleek design (courtesy of Apple).
ha ha why would you even post a link to that PRADA???????/
So it has a big screen and
So it has a big screen and multitouch. Whup. I interact with one thing on the screen at a time. Why do I care about multitouch? It's not like you can type faster, or flip through album art better because of multitouch.
Now if you made a full computer with multitouch, like their competitors, that would be worth hyping. But in a little phone, eh, who cares? I'd much rather they make a detachable battery or work as a tethered modem on a 3G network. Those two are complete dealbreakers.
It can make you type faster,
It can make you type faster, as you can start to press the 2nd or 3rd key on the screen while still having your finger on the 1st.
I'm looking forward to it
The multitouch does serve a
The multitouch does serve a purpose on the phone. It allows for the pinch/unpinch feature that zooms in and out of photos as well as the safari web browser. While these features might not be all that amazing in their own rights (although I personally think they are), they are also proof-of-concept. This new hardware provides apple programmers (and potentially 3rd party developers in the future) a more dynamic platform on which to develop software.
Oddly enough
I have a 4GB ipod nano, but itunes shows it as 3.9GB, why does his 8GB iphone show up as 8.0? fake screenshot? :P
seperate memory for the OS?
On the iPod the OS is stored on the hard disk and takes up space. Maybe on the phone the OS is stored in its own special memory external to the main memory storage.
This could be for security reasons as well as space issues, it would make it more difficult for people to copy out the OS and modify it.
iPhone ads, Pacific Catch
Did anyone do some research on the seafood restaurant, i was surprised to see that the website actually exists, not only that but the CEO of the place is Keith Cox, does Keith Cox ring a bell? Anyone?
Interesting.. Also, on the ad when the calamari seafood restaurant is presented. I like the button that appears right under where he clicks to call the place, that says "DIRECTIONS TO HERE". Hehehe.. GPS or Antenna tracking? Very nice..
It DOES have a place for a
It DOES have a place for a SIM. You can clearly see a materials change in the upper left hand curve of the phone. It begins on the top left bezel, goes all the way across, and around the top left radius. Nothing else would explain this materials change.
yes
yes
iphone does have sim card

what are those things on the side of the phone? 1 slot seems to be very close to the size of a sim card...
