Yet more claims as to what to expect from Apple's future MacBook range....

This new set of claims tally with those we've been picking up, but news of the brick remains small. (Image here is not of the new device, by the way)

- New MacBook Pro won't have the tapered edges of the MacBook Air, but will keep the current basic shape.

- MacBook Pro will be thinner and "as much as a half-inch narrower than the current model with less bezel around the screen".

- Glossy screens.

- New black keyboard keys as used in MacBook Air.

- Glass trackpad will offer MultiTouch

- Split trackpad? (Good for contextual menus and Windows virtualisation).

- Some claim FireWire 800 as standard.

i Hope so

2626

I've been saving up for a month or so now for a new MBP to replace my old PowerBook.

Firewire 800 would be awesome, since i want to buy a Drobo at some point.

Has anyone heard anything about a price point?

Ohhh

2527

I hope it will be a chance to choose between glossy an normal screen.

glossy screens only would be

2319

glossy screens only would be a shot in the foot for apple. i don't know anyone who rates them over matte for day to day usage

I like the glossy screens

2426

I like the glossy screens they use on the cinema displays. There perfect, half glossy, half matte. The macbooks is alright, better than hps, compaqs or dells for sure. I say if they put in a good screen Im fine with it. (also I prefer glossy over matte)

glossy for consumers

2023

Glossy fine if you're a computer commoner. But when you use your computer for work, the gloss makes one's life hell. Which is why, presumably, iMacs don't give you an option for a matte screen. Forcing glossy screens on Macbook Pros would be the death of that line.

Black narrower around the

2126

Black narrower around the screen will be great, but glossy screen will be a HUGE DISASTER!!!
Black keyboard (with today MBP shape) and silver (as yet) body will by looking great.

Yeah, I hope they don't do

2325

Yeah, I hope they don't do glossy only. If they do, I'll have to hold of upgrading until they change it.

And having two mice buttons would be weird. I'd like to see them get rid of the button altogether. The only thing I can think of that people still need the button for is click and drag, but I'm sure this could be done via multitouch.

It would make sense to split

1929

It would make sense to split the trackpad just virtually by a line instead of having a physical button. The bottom part could be just right to fit a finger and you could configure in preferences how many buttons it will detect. By default any touch to the bottom part of the trackpad would be primary button. But you could split it in preferences, so the right side would be primary and left part would be secondary. Or eventually 3 buttons.

shame that picture isn't the

2419

shame that picture isn't the real deal, i like it.
i also would like a mbp without a button alltoghether, speculation above seems about right. four finger swipe could replace click and drag, lol.

I hope they stick with the

2624

I hope they stick with the boxier look like the original instead of the tapered edges - I like that look. It looks more balanced and more like a serious machine instead of a toy.

A glossy display would be a

2525

A glossy display would be a major turn off for me. And for a lot of other people too. Apple knows this. There for I highly doubt they will do this. But if one company likes to piss off its regular users its Apple. I really hope they include FW3200, though I doubt they will. Even though there isn't any stuff for it right now it probably won't take the industry long to catch on.

true enough. what if they

1823

true enough. what if they killed off the pro altogether? it could happen, if not immediately. they can't be as profitable as the regular macbook. i think people would start jumping off buildings. not that jobs would care.

 I don't mind a tapered look,

2825

I don't mind a tapered look, but I do hope they take some manufacturing cues from the MBA. Like no plastic edges. It so cheapens the entire look of the machine. Also it must be said that the feel of the MBA aluminium has a more solid feel to it, than the aluminium of the MBP. Keyboard wise I hope they keep the silver color. I don't really mind if they go, which the probably will,  with the MBA style keys though.

Also I'm looking forward to buying a 30" ACD so Apple had better keep it supported on the next gen MBP's.

glossy

2917

i dont mind what they do, as long as they make it better ! if they chose glossy, they chose it for some reazon !

Units

2526

I have heard of rumors in the early days, that the new macbook pro will contain blu-ray drive. That would be very interesting, if the processor could handle the pressure. But even thought, details like firewire 800 and the best processor on the market by intel, would be great.

Glossy

2425

I love glossy screens. I would never go back. Never had a problem with it at all.

Glossy

2728

I work in a shop where we sell Macs. we've had pro photographers coming back with their new iMacs wanting their money back because they hated the glossy displays, to much reflexions and the colours are so far from being realistic its a calibrating nightmare. So glossy only on a Pro machine would not be a wise choice. People love the iMacs and MacBook's but believe me, if they had a choice, glossy or non glossy, the majority would choose non glossy.

get real

2422

see, that's just it: professional photographers, although "people," are not the "majority." they are a tiny, tiny minority. the true majority likes them because they make movies and home photos look shiny and bright. that's why all the consumer notebooks have them. apple isn't subsidizing an art program. they're out to make as much money as possible, by selling to the widest possible market. if that isn't clear by now, i don't know what more to say.

And that's why there should

2825

And that's why there should be a choice! People who buy the MBP buy it exactly because it is 'pro'. I work with film and having a glossy display would be a nightmare.
It's okay that Apple wants to reach for the majority consumer, but they shouldn't forget who made the brand what it is today: media artists.

 What is "the true majority".

2722

What is "the true majority". Again I sell these for a living and again when I show my customers a glossy display and a non glossy display. They turn around and say non-glossy please:).

And then there is the fact that it is called a " Pro machine" implying that it is to be used by Pros and pros don't like glossy. So having a glossy display than kind of defeats the Pro moniker doesn't it. besides I do occasionally sell the the MBP to non pro's but their "treu minority" when buying a MBP. Most are sold to Pros and to students that are on Art schools.

another reason why

2123

having commoners use Macs sucks for people who actually use their computer. Anybody who does any type of design or development hates glossy.

I don't minde the glossy or

2621

I don't minde the glossy or the MBA keybord. However I do minde the heat in my lap. I hope they can improve on heat management, but I'm affraid it's the aluminium body on its own. :(

I might not be surprised if

2425

I might not be surprised if the glossy screens become the standard and the matte ones become a mail-order option, the opposite of what happens today. You can currently get glossy MBPs at no additional cost if you want them.

Brick through Microsoft's Windows

2620

A real 'brick' through Microsoft's Windows would be the ability for OSX users, or more importantly Windows users, to be able to seamlessly run programs developed for Windows on a Mac - without the need for third party software, without the need for any Boot Camp, without the need for any 'hassle'. People who are looking for an upgrade to their computers (the majority of which - let's face it - are Windows users) would find it much easier to upgrade to Mac if they knew that they could put all of their existing software on their new machines easily. If Apple were able to create this overlap then immediately their Mac line of products would become more appealing to the masses. Integrating Microsoft in this way would lead to a massive tipping point for Apple where it wouldn't be as difficult to persuade customers to buy a Mac. This would give Apple huge leverage - it would have its own OS (of course), which would seamlessly run on its own hardware (Duh!), and would likewise seamlessly run programs developed for a variety of platforms natively! As far as I'm aware no on does that and if they do - they don't do it well enough. But Apple could.

If they only provide glossy

2528

If they only provide glossy screens -- i'll ditch my old macbook and go windows... (on a piece of hardware that will provide me with a normal (non glossy) screen)

I really hope that they give

2524

I really hope that they give us the option to use a Matte screen. For those of you who are Graphic Designers and alike like myself, the Glossy screens do not really display the proper colors and whatnot. It would be a huge letdown. Also, i would hope that they keep the boxy look somewhat over the Macbook Air look. The MBP is just too professional for that kind of crap.

Glossy Screen???? No Way

2920

being a graphic designer for more than 7 years, i had used desktop pcs more than laptop, and right now I have Compaq HP glossy screen and I hate it so much, cause it doesn't give me the right color output and I would choose matte screen with my eyes closed and without second thought. Apple should give us option on that rather than just looking to make money.
