Apple's three NYC stores pulling in 10 percent of all global store sales?
Before the GM Building was sold to a Boston Properties partnership last year, a prospectus shown to possible purchasers revealed the Apple store under the famous glass cube was doing an incredible $440 million a year. By comparison, sources said, Apple's outpost at Prince and Greene streets does $100 million. (The uptown Apple is larger, but not by much -- it has an estimated 10,000 square feet of selling space compared with 8,500 feet in SoHo.) What's interesting is that Apple's Soho store, which is roughly the same size, but includes large presentation/learning stage areas "only" pulls in $100 million a year(woops!). The 14th Street store has more square feet than either of the other stores (32,000 vs 25,000 5th Ave and 21,000 Soho). That means it likely does similar sales, if not more than Soho. That puts the three stores in New York at a minimum of $600-700/year. That's roughly $2 million per day! From Apple's SEC filings, we know that Apple's store sales range from $1.4-2 billion (holiday quarters higher than current) per quarter or $6-8 billion/year. That puts the three Manhattan stores at around 10% of the total global store revenue. That's a lot of iPods brought home by tourists, props to whoever makes the best "Big Apple" pun in the comments. Pulls in $100 Million a day?
Pulls in $100 Million a day? Guessing they meant $100,000 a day.
That's like 1 million iPod
That's like 1 million iPod Shuffles a day! Or like 3-4 Fully loaded MacPros! Crazy!
one store pulls in $100
one store pulls in $100 million a day but added with the other stores it totals $2 million? I think that's a typo :p
I think its $100 million per
I think its $100 million per year, making for $2 million per day all together.
2 million per day is 730
2 million per day is 730 million per year.....der.....
Which would be about right
Which would be about right when you add $440 million + $100 million + $100 million for the three stores.....der.....
This should be re-phrased
This should be re-phrased from "Apple's three NYC stores pulling in 10 percent of all global store sales?" to Apple's three Manhattan stores pulling in 10 percent of all global store sales? People forget about the 4th NYC Store in Staten Island.
I think the best store is the
I think the best store is the 14th Street store. It is huge at 3 floors and is never that crowded as the 5th Avenue store.
Agreed. When I used to work
Agreed. When I used to work in SoHo, I'd go to the one on Prince St. But the 14th St store is easier for me to get to from my apartment. I've tried going to Fifth Ave even at 1am or 2am and it's still irritatingly-packed with people just gawking.
I stopped for a gawk myself last summer.
It was just after the iphone 3G came out, and there was a line for service that must have been 100 people deep, if not more. 4 hours of waiting in the middle of the afternoon.
That was my first trip to NYC, and the East Coast. I admit I was prejudiced against both before the trip, but I loved it and can't wait to go back. Loved New England also.
Your math is off
600-700 million/year for the 3 stores is about $550k - 640k per store per day.
Are we talking about Earth
Are we talking about Earth where there is 365 days/year? or ?
Your brain is off.

And Apple is still losing Money
Apple has had a decline in hardware sales.
So the sales must be all iPods & iPhones.
The only reason Apple made money was becuase of their m usic devices.
Apple hardware LOST MONEY.
That is pretty pathetic since Apple won't have OLED in the iPhone and the Zune will.
Plus the point that Win 7 rocks
and have you see their new no control device for the XBox.
It kicks the Wii's ass and makes the Apple TV look like a toaster.

2010 the year of Microsoft.
Dude...Apple has 30% profit
Dude...Apple has 30% profit margins, almost always has. And Mac sales are down, yes, but so are iPod sales, and so are *everything* sales, Mac, PC, iPod, Zune, whatever, because of the recession. So it's not "Apple is doing badly," it's "Apple is doing really well compared to everybody else, but everybody else is doing really *really* badly."
Uhhh, since when having is
Uhhh, since when having is fewer sales (still at high profit margins) the same as having LOST MONEY? I see no connection between the two.

XBox is replacing Apple TV
It's now becoming a gaming, social, movie, tv device that Apple doesn't have a clue how to make.
Apple makes REALLY EXPENSIVE COMPUTURES AND RAPES THEIR CLIENTS FOR APPLE CARE AND "ONE ON ONE TIME".
Microsoft OS7 is getting great reviews even from Apple sites.
They now have an OLED touch media device and and a Game Box that does more than Apple TV does as a internet TV device.
What is Apple's next move. Snow Kitty?
Microsoft is already touch enabled and ever major (non Apple) Software company is making sure they are compliant with OS7.
What more do you need other than another year with a phone that can't multi task unless Apple lets it.
Dumb ass Sheep.
Some people are retarded
Why do people come to an apple site if they don't like apple? People in the comments who don't like apple, don't come to this website. duh.
As someone else said, sales of EVERYTHING is down, not only apple products.
