Magic, marketing and the power of iPhone

Not just a rerun (though it is) but an intimation of the kind of viral activity we expect to see on the iPhone.

This clip shows magician Marco Tempest employ some clever video animations as part of his act. Sure, it’s not magic per se, but it’s smart - and provides just a hint of the kind of activity big brand marketers are hoping will help them get all viral on the ‘Net.

See, New York-based creative marketing agency, Site International, this week confirmed it is developing a range of applications for the iPhone and the iPod touch, applications designed to harness the must-have power of the device with amusing viral ads for their client’s products.

One is for a yogurt chain interested in mobile coupons,. This ad/past time lets iPhone users create a “virtual smoothie”, mixing yogurt with a selection of fruits and other ingredients on the screen. Once mixed, the viral app lets a user virtually blend the ingredients using the iPhone screen, generating an on-screen bar code they can take to the yoghurt shop to have their choice of smoothie made on the spot.

'”It's a fun thing to show off to your friends and we think it can be an effective form of viral marketing.'" said Site Interactive CEO, Alan Ruthazer.

Holy crap!

iPhones rock! I can't wait for the x-ray app. I bet the AMA is going to be up in arms because people won't have to rely on doctors to ensure they haven't broken anything.

Seriously, you really think

Seriously, you really think this is a real X-Ray ?? Are you dumb or... dumb ?

Don't try to tell me it was irony...

It was sarcasm. I laughed.

It was sarcasm. I laughed. Thank you.

Man i could go for an

Man i could go for an iCoffee about now!

Ok, now how about some

Ok, now how about some useful applications. I'm tired of all these toy apps that are meant to keep the masses going gaga and would like applications that can turn the ringer on and off at certain times, do mind maps, create outlines that integrate with a decent calendar application, etc.

Hey chill mr Noob

Hey man - listen - there's going to be a forest of the apps you describe, all these things will come, but that's not the point of this particular story.

How much is the iCoffee

How much is the iCoffee application? That's the one that I want.

Can I get my coffee cafe-au-lait?

Who cares if those

Who cares if those applications are corny or stupid. If that kind of stuff can get people to buy iPhones even to just amuse people at parties or standing in movie lines, that's all well and good for Apple. That shaver app is about as corny as can be, but it darn sure is worth a few good laughs after a hard day.

Already being done?

Okay, this is going to be biased as I actually have bought a few of these mini apps ... but, this is just a rip off of these guys: http://www.hottrixdownload.com. I have their iBeer and been drinking beer on demand for ages now! They have heaps of these mini apps without the need for "SDK" or hacking the iPhone. Looks like someone is a little late to the party ;) They also do custom (I think) from what this page says: http://www.hottrix.com/iDrinks/
