Show's over...notes on Macworld 2009

Frankly we like to see a little more hardware at events but the 17 inch MacBook was pretty close to our description last week.  The $50 matte version should make people both happy and sad - as wil lthe internal long life battery.  We'd be lying if we said we didn't want one...with 8Gb (will we be able to up our smaller MacBooks to 8Gb)?   No Mini or iMac however was rough.  We have a feeling they are coming.

iLife and iWork are both looking pretty exciting.   iWork.com is pretty close to what we envisaged.  There were lots of gray areas where we missed some stuff but we think we got the major gist of it across.  GarageBand learn-to-play is exactly what we had heard.  And the Magic hint?  Cool transitions in iWork.  They are Fun!

iTunes.  The end of the DRM era.  Now we don't have to visit Amazon (but probably will continue for the dealz).  Amazon still beats Apple on price but iTunes is more convenient.

Apple Stock isn't really reacting (update - whoops - it is tanking).

Overall however, we were left....wanting...although the Macrumorslive (best feed out there)  getting hacked was entertaining.  And obviously we have an Apple Mac hardware event coming up.

We'll put up Apple's videos as they become available.  What did you think?

Yeah...this blows. I was

Yeah...this blows. I was waiting for any kind of news for the iMac, but nothing...not one bit of news. I'm thinking of just going out and buying one of the current lineups for the iMac, but I just don't know. I need a computer soon, but I'm wondering if any new iMac's with the NVIDIA chipset as rumors mentioned will be shipping any time soon. This will be my first iMac, and I don't know if I should keep waiting

wait a bit longer for your iMac. It is coming relatively soon, and by all reports, it should be a great update.

Wait for it!

4130

I needed a new notebook last August. Wanted to switch to Mac.
Heard rumors of new Macbooks so I waited one month, two months, three months... Then I bought the Unibody 13". I never regretted waiting for it.

Don't wait.

3725

If you need a new computer don't wait. I'd recommend heading over to the Apple online store and go to the refurbished section. I waited last year for updated Mac minis and they never came (still havene't come this year either) so I ended up buying a refurb 24" iMac. I got the 2.8 ghz with 500GB drive. It cost $1650 for a machine that normally went for well over $3000 brand new. I did the same when I had to order a computer for work. Got a refurb of the 3ghz imac with 512mb nvidia video card and saved around $450 over buying a brand new machine. The best part was it was supposed to come with a 500gb drive and I ended up getting a 750gb drive. Have had no problems with either machine since receiving them. They came packaged like brand new machines and were delivered to my address (free shipping to boot).

Once again the Mac Mini

3936

Once again the Mac Mini rumors fall on their face.

What a tease... I wanted an

What a tease... I wanted an iPhone Nano on Verizon. Is a Verizon iPhone product too much to ask for!?!?!?!?

You really shouldn't have

4032

You really shouldn't have been expecting anything vis-a-vis the iPhone at this event. Apple has really established the Summer for iPhone-related updates.

WTF! Wheres the new Mini? The

WTF! Wheres the new Mini? The best part of the event was mac rumors live feed getting hacked. Otherwise......BORING.

Disappointed

3642

All of that hype for iWork, iLife, non DRM iTunes, and a 17" MacBook? All of this was expected, where is the new Mini, where is the new iMac, where is the Shock and Awe? And what the heck was the deal with the live blog? Looks like you were hacked.

Dick Van Wrinkle

hype?

3933

there was relatively little hype this time, for a change. steve's absence should have been your first clue it would be boring.

Blah

3835

Completely disappointing. I was hoping for new desktop hardware and a Snow Leopard hint. I want an X58 based Mac Pro :(

NOT ENOUGH

3031

COME ON APPLE!

-UPDATE THE MAC MINI
-UPDATE THE 30" DISPLAY
-UPDATE THE IMAC
-UPDATE THE MIGHTY MOUSE
-LAUNCH A TABLET

DO SOMETHING!

updating the 17" macbook pro is good, and also the new ilife and iwork seem nice, but there is still so much work to be done! seriously!

30 cents more for good iTunes

3540

30 cents more for good iTunes tracks sucks balls
also, I feel cheated by Apple because they didnt release the 17 in in October

Where is my Mac Mini?

4139

So much rumors about a speedbump, new nvidia based hardware, new design ... and now. Nothing. What should I do with the saved money? Buying a Dell Studio?!

Very disappointing!

3535

I have been putting off the purchase of a new Mac Mini in hopes the rumors were true. When on earth is Apple going to refresh this very useful home theater PC with new technology?! What a bust. . . .

In the words of Mr. Bennett:

In the words of Mr. Bennett: "The best is yet to come".
That song was not chosen randomly. Be patient.

What do you do if you want to

2934

What do you do if you want to convince people that a MacWorld presence isn't necessary? Hold any significant product updates until a future, post-conference press event.

no new Mac Mini :(

4336

no new Mac Mini :(

Very Disappointing

3535

Wow. Extremely disappointing coming from Apple. They did not announce anything good enough to even be interested. I want a new iMac and a Mac Mini....... come on apple.

DISSAPOINTED

3934

I must say firstly this was the most boring keynote I've personally ever watched. Maybe because no Steve. Secondly it was the most disappointing not only for myself but I think for many people. I was expecting more hardware, iMac, Mac Mini... something! This keynote looked more like a WWDC keynote with 70% of it being dedicated to software. Over all very very disappointed.

So... Should... I kinda just

3835

So... Should... I kinda just sorta go buy an iphone? What if there´s a new one in february? I´d have to strangle someone.

Just get it

3834

I waited till macworld, but more than likely it be summer for a new iphone update. So when one does not come out in Feb you can be like me wishing i woul have just gotten it 4 months ago. That meant I could have upgraded sooner.

What hardware event???

4234

What hardware event? When is it? Apple didn't say anything at the keynote about such an event did they?

No Mac mini?? WTF?

4137

Boring! They should have made last year's MWSF their last. All that they debuted today could have been issued in a press release. Yawn!

Key Note OK

3339

Why everybody only wants bigger/faster hardware. Even todays machines are fast/big enough. I have 2 x MacMini (PPC and Intel), 2 x intel Imac, 2 MacBook Air SSD. Everything runs excellent. I don't need more, faster, better. I want better/stable software. Snow Leopard would be nice, but I prefer a later release date as long as the first version is stable.
iWork09 looks nice. I use iWeb a lot and any new features are welcomed.
iLife09 is also great as I use this everyday.
OK, I am not a power user, but I can live with these announcements.
I look forward to the next Apple event tough (as usual).
PS Phil did well (its not Steve tough...:))

No wonder Steve-o didn't

3734

No wonder Steve-o didn't appear at MacWorld. He knew that consumers would be disappointed with the scant few "new" offerings.

I guess that we now have to wait for WWDC. I suspect we'll see a flurry of refreshes across the board.

Be realistic guys

3426

Wake up guys. Apple is just a normal company selling what mainstream customers want. We cannot have a "iphone level" announcement every 3 months. Just enjoy what you already have....don't be so greedy...:)

Someone understands

3036

Ya know, fishbert gets it. Really, really gets it.

Now Apple is out from under the expectation of doing something super at MacWorld & can release stuff on their own schedule.

Way to go Apple !

Very Disappointing

3434

Agreed. Very disappointing.

One of the sad things is that Apple is not keeping up with processors from Intel.

Back in September, Intel launched it's 6 Core Xeon 7400. Four months later and...nothing from Apple. The Intel Core 2 Quad 9300 has been available since early 2008, yet there is no Mac which takes advantage of it.

Remember one of the advantages of going with Intel was that Apple would be able to get faster and faster CPUs? Well? We're waiting...

ITS THE SOFTWARE STUPID

3439

Apple can update to new hardware by releasing a press release. Hardware upgrades based on existing technology (like Nvidea in an iMac) are borring and don't belong in a Keynote.
Software is much more important and I like the iWork09 and iLife09 upgrades.
OK, there is always more to look forward to, but I am confident this will come.
