This is interesting: seems we may be just a week or two away from seeing the truth behind the brick and actually taking a look at genuine images of new Apple laptops, at least, that's what the latest input from Nvidia suggests.

Mac Soda tells us the day Nvidia was due to introduce the new graphic chip the new MacBook was probably going to use was quietly moved from September 30 to October 15. Now, this is interesting because of speculation and guessing - see, there were serious rumours which suggested a September 29 launch date for the new 'Books, with info now claiming an October 14 date...(which is at least a Tuesday).

"NVIDIA officially launch on October 15 next MCP7A its new chipset for Intel platform that will be in 2 versions. The GeForce 9400, identical in all respects to the GeForce 9300, will simply highest frequencies for its GPU and shaders," a French report explains.

Now - we also know that Apple has this thing where it doesn't like its component suppliers saying too much in advance of the release of new product - anyone out there remember the G4 Cube and ATI?

Anyway, here it is, the latest in circumstantial evidence that kind of sort of suggests Apple may release a new Mac soon. It would be nice to see new Macs, it would make a pleasant change.

GeForce 9400?! Oh man... at least a 9600M GT on the MBP's! The 9400 would be very nice for the MB's though...

What?!

MPBs! 9400 and 9800! WTF are you talking about? Seriously, to get this excited about something this trivial - are you one of those people that actually buys (and can afford to!) every new upgraded version of all Apple hardware, no matter how small the speed or performance gains are? "Oooo! This one has a 2.4 GHz processor, and my last rig I got had a 2.1 GHz - I'm going to go get in that line now!"

The gfx on the current crop are seriously underpowered (especially on the MB, but you have to go to the top spec iMac before you get an even halfway reasonable graphics card, and even that's a year out of date...)... it's not a minor bump - it's what the mac line has been missing for a while.

Actually, no. I'm the type of person that is looking forward to moving up from my now almost 4 year old 1.5Ghz G4 powerbook. What is with these people that presume that everyone who owns a mac is a money-flaunting maniac that buys every iteration?

Yes, it's true. An Apple engineer carelessly left a sample of the "Brick" on the grassy knoll. I powered it on and saw a webcast from the future, dated October 14. It showed Steve (still alive, btw!) doing a demo of it. Then shots rang out from the old PowerBook Depository. I got the heck outta there! Yep, the 14th. You'll love it!

And two drives? Yeah, the first notebook for right and left handed people. Or maybe you insert the DVD on one end and it exits on the other (can you laptop do that too>) LOL

I just want them to bump the Mac Pro. I'm going to be ordering one in the next month, and they're overdue for a revision.

My company just took delivery of a Mac Pro edit suite. We know they might be updating the Mac Pro soon, but whatever, we're happy; The Mac Pro with Final Cut Studio that we got yesterday is a zillion times better than the 13-year-old Avid composer running on Windows NT4 that it replaced.
