There is nothing I love more than Apple rumors. So, in that respect, I have some great news for everyone. One of our tipsters has a bit of a riddle for us.
S/he says that the MacBook update event in a few weeks (you know the one with the glass trackpads) is 'all about the Brick'. What does "The Brick" mean? Can anyone out there help us out? This is one of those tipsters that has a solid track record so we want to go along for the ride.
Maybe we can figure out this riddle together?
Update: John Gruber from Daring Fireball says the announcement will occur October 14th
..those of you holding out for a new lineup of MacBooks will have to wait until October 14, according to sources who, as they say, are familiar with Apple’s hardware plans.

Update the Mini? Total
Update the Mini? Total madness! It's only been about 14 months since the last minor refresh. < /bitter sarcasm >
do they still make those?
do they still make those? It's a dying breed, they won't go down that road for the mere fact that it would not generate a bunch of new customers into the 'mac experience'.
Not really..I find the Mac

new macs
how can i trust a tipster with no name?
ill tell you why! coz i realy want this rumor to be true! new macbooks and pros are what im waiting for, glass trackpad, maybe not.
The Brick
The brick could simply be the two dimensions of the new Ipad. roughly 3.25 by 6 inches with a hinge for keypad when opened. It would have osx capability as well as Iphone . Basically an executive Iphone and computer.. Clearly an unbeatable item as stated in the last report.
Amazing stuff.. Will only add

Hopefully they are updating
Hopefully they are updating the macbooks. I can't wait for an updated version. Macs are the best computers I have ever used.

No power adapter required?
Could apple get rid of the brick aka power adapter? They have been getting smaller and smaller (iPhone), could they fit what's left of it inside the macbook case, so you would only need the power cord?
I dunno. Those power adapters
I dunno. Those power adapters get pretty hot, and the notebooks are hot as it is. I don't want to put something like that inside the computer and further increase the cooling/fans problems.
Maybe they have fitted the
Maybe they have fitted the whole brick inside the power plug..
..or the brick is going to be
..or the brick is going to be a docking station with dvd drive in it. Imagine a MacBook-Air-Super-Drive -like dock that has power adapter built in. Place your MacBook on it to charge or to read/write a dvd.
I'm guessing they will route
I'm guessing they will route ports to the power adapter? e.g Ethernet.
Blazing Inferno
That's it. Internal super-heating power supplies + already painful notebook temperatures = BRICK!
things brick shaped
last guess was good, but not macbook related...
processors?
battery (life, doubtful...)?
hard drives?
trackpad (already suggested)?
thinking theoretically, bricks are the foundation of a building. Foundation could be the groundwork (motherboard) or what it's made of (plastic - aluminum, already suggested).

er... doubt it
something about placing a computer in a magnetic field powerful enough to recharge a battery is quite unsettling
I Agree
I completely agree to the power cable's "brick" being the new lasso Apple will use to sell their products. I remember seeing a lot about this upcoming technology and, as we know, Apple has been the first to harness a lot of space-age, game-changing technology (the latest being Apple's iPhone/iTouch touch capabilities).
I'm still curious as to what the specs will be for the general "no-duh" upgrades (memory, CPU, price)
That's pretty cool. Imagine having a WiFi type thing in your house that automatically charges the battery- though would this do the same thing to the current batteries if left charging for too long (drain the battery's max capacity?)
All attempts at wireless
All attempts at wireless power to this point have incinerated birds that got in the way...

the brick is
The power supply is often referred to as the "the Brick" or a "Soap-on-a-Rope" in the consumer electronics development world. I would think that that is the brick in question... Which would be a cool selling feature, until the internal power supply goes bad.

"the brick" how about new
"the brick" how about new macbooks come with a docking station for your ipod touch or iphone that when docked becomes the glass trackpad for all your mouse-type-multi-touch needs and obviously it transfers and updates everything you need when its docked.
i don't know actually i am stoned and thought it would be a good idea but i can already imagine it being reeeeeeeeeeeallly annoying.
The brick
It's the name of the new cross-the-product line docking solution. It integrates a time-machine backup hard drive, moves connections you don't really need when on the move to the dock (and adds some connectors for the Air) and has two display connectors. The notebook stays closed when in use. It allows the notebook to double as an ergonomic desktop, satisfying most demands for a headless mid-range and providing more value at the same time.
maybe it's the macbook's form
maybe it's the macbook's form factor. their straight lines make them look more like a brick than the macbook air. maybe that's it: an updated mb/mbp look closer to the mba one
It has to do with the shape.
It has to do with the shape. Since we like the 'retro' fashion look it will be redesigned to look like a Commodore 64 SX http://oldcomputers.net/pics/sx64.jpg
