MacBook Air is a speedburner?

Who would've thunk it?  Even with the 1.8 inch hard drive and supersmall processor, the MacBook Air swiftly kicked the backsides of the three closest competitors in C|Net's Lenovo ThinkPad X300 review.  In the tests, the Lenovo Thinkpad X300 with 1.2 Ghz processor went up against the Apple MacBook Air (1.6GHz), Toshiba Portege R500-S5003(1.2GHz) and the HP Compaq 2710p(1.2GHz).

Lenovo smartly shipped their demo units with Windows XP.  One has to wonder how horribly clunky this thing runs with Vista.  Ouchy.

It's funny the Air is faster

It's funny the Air is faster than other computers because everyone was hammering it when it was announced.  Well, maybe not everyone but I was at MacWorld and people definitely thought it was slow.

I fail to see how this is

I fail to see how this is really a surprise, given the MBA's 1.6 Ghz processor, in comparison to the X300's 1.2 Ghz one, which, with all other things being equal (with the same chipset, etc), is a full 400 Mhz faster.  Obviously the MBA is going to be faster than the other two, with their 1.2 Ghz chips...

Thats what I thought too.

Thats what I thought too. Why would you compare a Horse to a ferrari (The exaggeration is used by the author to emphasize his/her point)

1.2 to 1.6 ... seriously...

there are lots of other

there are lots of other factors.  hard drive and bus speed being the biggest...that could make  a huge difference - look at how the PCs differ with the same chip

Youre right of course, but

Youre right of course, but still 400Mhz is nothing to completely overlook.

Everyone knows that apple hardware has been optimized for only a few configurations so they work a little smoother id say.

Todays processors dont compete in clock speed anymore like they did two years ago.
But youll have to admit that its a feature that sticks out in the comparison.

haha a new technological

3328

haha a new technological marvel, the lenovo X300, ships with an OS that's over 5 years old.

I just read a MaximumPC article comparing OS's to the development of humans, and yes its totally true. XP is like the 12-year old, smart, intelligent, seems fully grown up but lacks experience and knowledge. Vista is like the 14-yr old who knows what it wants to be, but it's a know-it-all, and has too many pimples.

Or something like that.

Why not Ubuntu instead of

Why not Ubuntu instead of Windoesz XP on the X300 ?

The Mac Book Air is

The Mac Book Air is described as being slow in comparison to other more powerful laptops in the Apple range that are cheaper yet better specified eg the MacBook. It is not described as being slow when compared to slower computers.
