We think this is very close to what will come on Tuesday - perhaps a bit darker and less iMac-y and we are getting somewhere. Flickr user Superfunny. Has anyone else seen any good mockups?
Think that last comment hits the nail on the head.
I can see the press now: Apple launches ultra-slim notebook with unusable trackpad. Stock prices fall 10%. Entire Reality Distortion Field under threat - for several seconds entire world sees Job's real 700 year old wizened body... etc etc
That'd be interesting. But surely they'd have an eraser stub for notebook mode? It'd suck to need a mouse for effective use as a notebook (and no, pointing at a screen does not equate to effective, that gets tiring very fast from holding your hand out).
well~ you guys DID say there was something strange about the touchpad. we all just assumed that meant bigger / wider; rather than just large enough for Stuart Little to use :-/
here's looking forward to tomorrow anyways. been putting off the new Mac portable purchase for far too long as is.
At least, when I guessed in the comments on this site before Christmas that there would be no trackpad based on 9to5's various cryptic posts on the topic, Admin replied with a confirmation.
So yeah, guess big or small, I'm sticking with NONE.

Is anyone else silently ashamed of themselves for being pathetically excited, like childhood christmas eve, about tomorrow? I have no-one around to share this pathetic fetish with- sure I have mac geek friends but it feels wrong to call them to trade predictions- is it wrong? Really? Can I? I would love it if there is no rim around the screen, no moving parts and it had inductive charging and easy syncing to home mac.
If apple were to do anything, it would keep the clamshell design but would make the bottom half be a huge multi-touch screen, that could act as anything you want such as the keyboard, to act as a tablet PC (the top screen could fold all the way to the back (fits neatly on the back of the computer), or even act as your controls for the cockpit of an airplane, all with multitouch....

i don't understand why everyone feels it has to be a tablet OR a perfectly normal ultra-portable. I really think a convertible tablet is the way to go in apple's case. It would reach a larger audience than a tablet would, and it could attract both business and consumer customers alike. (business guys for convenience, consumers for its media capabilities and "cool factor". Yep, my money's on a Macbook Air convertible tablet for around 1700 bucks...
I agree with just a guy. I think it'd be stupid for apple to release a slightly thinner macbook with a nicer screen as a whole new line. People don't seem to realize that this machine would kill the macbook...this looks like an improved macbook to me, not a new machine and definitely not a new line. I say we will be introduced to a laptop with an entirely new touch interface, probably a convertible tablet if i had to guess or an apple spin on the convertible tablet. I honestly don't even think that "air" will have anything to do with the laptop being launched, I attribute the "something in the air" to some sort of wimax project. I say that "something in the air" is internet access, not an obscure reference to the lack of weight on a new notebook. Everyone has totally gone berserk running with this macbook air concept, aside from the fact that it sounds a little stupid for apple, it just makes no sense to me why they would release that product and use an ad like that for it. This reminds me of the hideous iPhone mockups we all saw for a month before macworld. Apple will out design all of us, thats why they work for apple and why we are all watching them.

Pretty cool, but the hinge seems to bulky.
This would be awesome, beacause I
could just use Back To My Mac with
my home computer (if I can get it working)
and wouldn't need to worry about hard drive size.
This would also be great for having at Macworld
or other keynotes, because you could do liveblogging
w/o having a big laptop to carry around.
I need this.

Make's me dislike the 15" set-up that I'm currently running, and I've loved this set-up through my past 3 Powerbooks/MacBook Pros.
