iPhone 3.0 Event Liveblog

We're rolling out our good ol' fashioned 9to5mac Livepanel which will be circulating different feeds throughout today's iPhone 3.0 announcement.  As you might remember, this framed page shows four of the best feeds at once and is refreshed every 15 seconds so your mouse button finger doesn't have to bleed.  It works best on large (24"+) monitors and uses 1990's html frames technology to bring sweet, sweet iPhone 3.0 information to your eyes as quickly as possible.

Will we see MMS, copy/paste, tethering, landscape email typing, wireless synching, push notification or maybe even a TabletTune in to find out.

Update: Apple Stock already up almost 3 points in early trading

Hmm, I think it should read "Will we see...everything that the BB Storm ALREADY DOES?" My phone from six years ago could MMS. You people and your gimmick of a phone!

Now on the other hand, I nice tablet would be something worth looking at!

LOL @ MMS who uses that when you can email......

Unfortunately, most of my friends have dumbphones and send me MMS messages on occasion. There are a lot of things I like about the iPhone, but not being able to read an MMS on the phone without jumping through hoops sucks and AT&T's implementation of MMS for users of legacy phones that don't support MMS (one of which is the iPhone) sucks, too. Realistically, the lack of MMS is a deficiency of the iPhone, plain and simple, and it ought to have some basic level of support so as not to inconvenience a large number of it's users.

MMS is like a floppy disk, except floppy disks were actually useful once.

BB Storm. LOL.

BB Storm = no WiFi = Epic Fail

Your iphone needs wifi because it can't get service any other way. Face it, a phone is only as good as the network it's on. And frankly, AT&T's network = Epic Fail.

Hi, I am working on a webserver and am wondering. What technology are you using for this so it is not death to your server?

They are serving a single, static, 2 KB HTML FRAMESET page that META REFRESHes every 30 seconds. Any real burden is shifted to the sites they link to in the FRAMEs. Assuming they pull their posts out of a database instead of caching them, loading the home page would be harder on the server than the livepanel. If they'd take their page off the top or serve some static header, there would be almost no load placed on the server from the livepanel.

Man.. Now that I think about it, this guys right... mms IS the most vital feature for a cell phone. I'm also sure that this guys magical phone from 6 years ago also could render websites, play 3D games, send and recieve emails, play music, show movies, tv shows, heck even comment on blogs like I'm doing now. All from his ahead of it's time cell phone. Dude wake up... the storm is crap (and I speak from personal experience), and is a sad attempt at copying the most innovative mobile device yet, the iPhone. Yeah, certian features are missing still, but how long has apple been in the cell phone business?? Not quite two years selling cell phones, and now the industry who has years of experience making cell phones are attempting to copy apple, and are doing a very poor job of it. If it's such a "gimmick" why has basically every major cell phone company tried to copy it???? It's cuz they know just as you do that the iPhone is here to stay and that it is revolutionizing the mobile market. Wake up and take a whiff of reality. It will do you much better than living in that little dream world of yours.

I will give in to the fact that the iphone made touch phones popular. But the iphone was NOT the first touch based phone to be mass produced. LG made the Prada phone well before the iphone ever existed. But, the touch form factor is the only area in which one could even call the iphone "innovative". The reality is that everything the iphone can do, was already being done in just about every other phone on the market at the time. Not to mention all the things the iphone is still incapable of doing. The fact is, that the iphone did nothing to "revolutionize" the cell phone industry with the exception of a slick form factor. And it was put on a horrible network to boot. I'm speaking from experience, and the Storm is the best phone I've used to date, including the iphone. At any rate it's far more feature rich and capable thanks in part to the best network in the states.

Probably u don't know. for example with swirly mms u can attach lot of pictures and if u write email address instead of telephone number, it's going to as an email. U can attach only just one picture with email program. Because off that mms is better than email...

Maybe I'm missing something here, but i've never, ever had to copy and paste when using my phone? What is all the fuss about this function.

I also understand why apple didn't include MMS, but I think they badly misjudged the UK market when they did this, MMS here is incredibly popular, and without everyone being on an email enabled phone (which is a fairly small percentage) it's a little bit embarrassing for them to have missed it out.

I really hope that MMS functionality is built into version 3.0, because at the moment it's the only common functionality that's missing - it's not like phasing out floppy discs which had outlived their usefulness and were destined to become obsolete - people still use MMS because it's convenient and simple.

dang copyandpaste, that's what we pin our hopes! your willing to agree to another At&t contract extension of 3-4,000 dollars out your pocket for that feature!

today they better bring it, kitchen sink and all!

freaken three years is more than enough of time for technological advancements for just only copy and paste. This feature was invented almost 30years ago!!!!!!!

that's just as old as me, but I digress.

You're getting your hopes up for nothing. 3.0 isn't going to be as exciting as people think. Get ready for a huge letdown. You have been warned.

You are an IDIOT!!!

Forget all the easy and common requests like copy/paste, MMS, ...

They will do those but hopefully also open up for more phone API's like:

Access to: call lists, SMS, iPod media.

This might requiere a longer verification time to have the apps in the store.
That will make many new and more useful apps.

I hope they will make a iPhone version of front row so that one can use the Apple remote and use the iPhone like a low res. AppleTV.

Since the competition is so far behind Apple can wait until next year to do change computing as we know it. What I mean by that is an iPod/iPhone that can be connected to a monitor and keyboard and work as a Mac. Why do you all think Apple is making Snow Leopard resolution independent (and has a patent on that). That will make the apps small so Safari, Mail, iPhone etc. are the same on the iPhone and the Mac. On the iPhone they will just make use of the Touch UI. When you use a monitor the iPhone will run a full Mac desktop. The iPhone can even double as a touch pad in that case.

But Apple will make a slow transition to this, also to get the CPU speeds to catch up and Snow Leopard to mature. Steve will be back and introduce a 10'' version that will work like this.

The Mac will also get the app store. And all the developers for the iPhone will be able to make apps that run as: Mac, IPhone Touch UI, iTablet, and front row target: The iPhone, Mac and AppleTV.

An intermedia version of the iPhone could perhaps be used with any Mac so that when the iPhone is docked, the users you have on your home Mac will be available on this 3. party Mac. You can ten login as yourself and have the apps and data presented since they are stored on the iPhone and/or via MobileMe.

To do the same on a PC (remember yellowbox from NeXT?), iTunes could be the virtual Mac. No sure about that, but could be an interesting switcher tool.

"Apple is going to let everyone down. Their new 3.0 release is going to down-grade every program. Hell they might even throw in shuffle for your contacts. So you can call random people instead of calling the person you really wanted to contact."

OMG THIS LIVE PANNEL IS SO WEIRD!
y not just use tabs in safari?
anyhowz, cant wait for mms and video recording!

This livepanel is kinda bad...how bout using something like www.coveritlive.com instead?????

I'm really happy with my iPhone G3 as is with all of the Apps that I now have installed.

Any new features brought on by 3.0 will be an added bonus.

I'm looking forward to a 7" or 10" TouchPad.

the feature i'm impatiently waiting for......setting an alarm with your itunes music instead of those silly preset tones.

I would love to see support for Network Tethering, A2DP driver support (stereo bluetooth), landscape option in email, and Flash support in the browser. To the iPhone haters, go somewhere else; trolling for flame bait is so childish. I hope Apple provides these in the 3.0 release, if not I'll keep my jail-broken iPhone on the version it is currently running.

I am also verry verry happy with my iPhone....it is realy great!!! I was in Brasilien an i have had the show with me
