Apple Keyboards now smaller

Share

Apple looks to have shrunk their wired keyboards.  Surely you won't miss the Number Pad and such?  Right, get one of the old ones while they last.  Either one is currently available.  (and chill out, Apple will probably offer both for a long time - there are two options!)

You can actually choose... (at least with a 24-inch iMac)
But which to get?

You can still choose which one you want while ordering. Even without an increase in price. :-P

but on iMac standard is small, on Mac Pro standard is regular.

i actually wished for a black backlit keyboard to got with my unibody macbook pro and my 24 LED Cinema Display....

I wonder how stores like best buy are going to handle this cause i know for sure i'll be mad as hell if my iMac arrive with a keyboard that has the # pad missing

I have an Apple wireless keyboard, and I do not like it. Too many double-duty and triple-duty keys. No dedicated home, end, page-up, page-down, or forward delete keys. On top of that, fewer function keys.

A human-sized keyboard should be the default, and the elfin keyboard the option.

As a notebook user for years, I have no idea why people would want a battleship-sized keyboard.

I have never used a numeric keypad, nor have I used function keys beyond F12.

We are slowly but surely inching back towards Steve Job's initial vision of the Mac.

If any keyboard on the market most closely resembles the Mac's keyboard from 1984, it is this new one.

I got an Apple Bluetooth keyboard. I don't miss the number pad, but I miss the hell out of home and end when I'm in VMWare.

Having used many different computers and keyboards for years, I rely on a full size keyboard as being one of the relatively common element that eases my computer use.
I use the arrow and dedicated page up/down/etc keys.
And I always use the numeric keypad for numeric entry - even for little things like zip codes etc. Way faster (for me) than the number keys in standard letter area.
So for me, I would sorely miss them on the mini-keyboard.

For new and light computer users, a mini keyboard may be fine.

But I think the standard should be the default in-the-box keyboard.

I agree with above posters on points: even though std-size keyboard can be ordered from Apple, what will non-Apple stores do??
And kind of funny: it does seem as though Steve is pushing the computer back to the 80's design ideas. The keyboard does resemble the layout on my first Mac Plus!

For me any kind of keyboard as long as i feel free while using it.Regarding Apple Keyboards which is now smaller,i don't think so,but i just have to make sure my money if it can avail to buy certain such thing. Thanks for telling us.

I hope that they don't kill it off. All signs show that they have every intention of getting rid of it. But I use the 10-key religiously. I haven't upgraded my MacBook Pro either, as they got rid of the hidden 10-key there as well. I use it daily. I hate using the numbers on the top of the keyboard. As a data entry person, no 10-key is not an option.

For me,any kind of keyboard as long as we can benefit to it..Regarding Apple Keyboards which is now smaller,i think it is also better one but i know users has the right to choose which one they want.
Thanks for the idea.
