Another SJobs@apple.com email, this time dissing Google's Picasa

A UK reader writes in to say that Steve Jobs has replied to his email regarding Picasa Albums on the iPad.

Instead of just telling him that Apple (obviously) wouldn't support Google's Picassa library format, Jobs writes that iPhoto has a "much better Faces and Places features" than Picassa.

OK, that might be more stating the obvious than a diss.  Header info below and yes Jobs is still rockin' the 3.1.2 iPhoneOS.

Where is the diss to Google? Apple CEO touting an Apple product over a competitor, now that's original!

Guys, what if that camera hole from the apple ad and the pics was a projector? Everyone who has an ipad for development already knows there's a hole there, but it doesn't look like a camera. I wish i could crack it open.

Imagine placing the ipad in the dock, and instead of having a digital photoframe it projected that pretty photo slideshow on your wall. Not to mention keynote and videos.

I don't think that apple can compete google yet.

But I think it will come. It really depends on how Apple will use all his money to extend...

time will tell on this one.

I have been thinking of switching from the iphone to the google phone because of the third party apps. Why is it that Apple doesn't seem to want to work with other software providers? We do Windshield Replacement Atlanta and use the iphone to process credit cards and communication. I've heard there are better apps on the google phones, but I've never used one.

This is true. Let's be honest, my business switched over to the Google Android system. Why? We do a lot of international conferencing and the android has better online meeting functionality, it's as simple as that.

I know, where's the diss? Any CEO would have done the same thing.

Not fake. I emailed him. He replied. Anyone want a forward - give me your email.

I was expecting him to say that iPhoto was better, I agree, but it's bit weird for a CEO to openly state that another company's offering is poor. Most companies would say that "There are no plans to support Picasa at this time."

Jobs is just like "STFU, iPhoto is much better"

The one thing I don't get: Photoshop Albums is poor. Yet that support that, which is now discontinued even.

Stfu. iPhoto is beter 

Photo or it did not happen.

honestly, complaining about a direct to the point response is incredibly naive and, IMO child like. this man is running a multi billion dollar corp, acknowledged an outstanding exec running an outstanding enterprise by Forbes, Harvard Biz and multiple others through the roof, stock climbing and a guy sending an email about Picaso complaining because he got a direct answer...it just makes me wonder how much "real life" experience the poster has. and if you think it is "weird" for a ceo to comment on other companies product, check out s. balmer sometime, or google execs, or sun execs, or or or...whew..wow...don't get it.

I am afraid your understanding of English is very poor, he didn't say iPhoto is better neither did he say picasa is bad. all he said is iPhoto has much better faces and places features.

Stop dissing Apple and better still go back to school and take up an English course so you can better understand what people are saying or writing in English.

Most companies would say that "There are no plans to support Picasa at this time."

Whenever has Apple been a "most" company?

I use the apple iphone for my windshield repair atlanta business everyday. I take pictures of the cars that we repair and would like to have some type of software that I could organize the photos with.

What if I'm using a PC? How do I get iPhoto Faces and Places features? Unacceptable answer

I'm surprised Steve (or at least one of his "minnions") emailed back responding to something so obvious.

Their whole campaign of eliminating the need for Google's services will escalate and even change a few things within the iPhone, such as mapping data and default search engine setting. A week after the Apple-vs-Google NYT article and you still emailed Steve Jobs about Picasa? Of all things, seriously? Was it a rhetorical question, like this one? Really?

I could care less about the current media representation of Apple vs. Google. They are obviously not getting along, but it's not gonna stop me asking, especially since the only sync format supported on a Windows machine is discontinued.

It's not like iLife is on Windows; they need to offer something for Windows consumers IMO.

Like it or not, the fact of the matter is the Apple-Google war WILL affect consumers.

"they need to offer something for Windows consumers IMO"

1000% certain it's NOT going to happen. Apple is in the business of selling Apple hardware. iTunes and Safari are only available on the PC to advance increase iPhone/iPod sales and to promote WebKit.

Okej show us the complete mailheader at least...

I whant the new macbooks pro ... its time to updates !

I'm sure steve has alot more things to address right now than Picasa. Maybe his email could of been alittle more respectful since Jobs made money from it in the past, but i am sure that he is getting so many emails right now that he can hardly take the time to properly address them all.

I'd prefer him not to respond than reply in a 'rushed' manner.

You think some random guy on the Internet is going to get a lengthy reply from a billionaire CEO with more things to do than time to do it? Come on. A short reply is the ONLY thing that guy could hope for (no matter how nice or otherwise Jobs is feeling that day). It's not as though the reply was so hasty that you're left dangling, uncertain whether he'd said yes or no. At least I wasn't.

Respectful? You want Steve to tell him something he doesn't believe?

No doubt Jobs sensed the "Just say something bad aout Google" angle to the question.

He simply stated that he believes iPhoto has better Faces and Places than Picasa. He's pretty much stating, in that case, that since that comes free with the iPad, why would he bother to support a poorer implementation.

For Steve Jobs, the message was very friendly and respectful. He didn't call the guy a bozo or say his idea was BS. That's what he says to the CEOs of other companies. Downright friendly is how I would characterize that response from Jobs (if in fact it was Jobs.)

I agree with you, thank you for sharing info.

LOL how is this a diss. That is like going into mcdoalds and asking for a whopper and the manger telling you the big mac is much better.

but it is.

The guy at McDonald's told you what?? I'm calling the NYT. No doubt they'll want to run a cover story about how the CEOs of McD's and Burger King hate each other. The public needs to know.

I agree completely.
